Shamsul Alam (born 1 January 1951) is a Bangladeshi economist, and a former State Minister of Planning of Bangladesh from 19 July 2021 until 19 November 2023. He retired as a member and the Senior Secretary of the Bangladesh Planning Commission. [2] He is also one of the syndicate members of Sylhet Agricultural University. In recognition of his contribution in economics, the government of Bangladesh awarded him the country's second highest civilian award Ekushey Padak in 2020. [3] He is the member of Awami league Advisory council.
Alam was born on 1 January 1951 at Matlab Uttar in Chandpur of the then East Bengal (now Bangladesh). [4] He graduated in 1965 from the then East Pakistan Agricultural University (now Bangladesh Agricultural University) with a degree in agricultural economics and received his post-graduate degree in 1973. [4] In 1983, he received a post-graduate degree in economics from Thammasat University and obtained his PhD in the same subject from Newcastle University in 1991. [4]
Alam served as a faculty member of Bangladesh Agricultural University during 1974–2009. He worked as a member of General Economics Division (GED) from 2009 until 30 June 2021. [5]

Mohammad Saifur Rahman was a Bangladeshi chartered accountant, economist and politician. He was a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the longest-serving Finance Minister of Bangladesh. He delivered 12 national budgets in three terms between 1980 and 1981, 1991–1996 and 2001–2006 over a ministerial life spanning from December 1976 until October 2006 in three different governments. He was Trade & Commerce Minister for the first three years, and thereafter Finance and Planning Minister for 12 years.
Abdul Gaffar Choudhury was a Bangladeshi-born British writer, journalist, columnist, political analyst and poet. He wrote the lyrics to "Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano", a widely celebrated song commemorating the Bengali Language Movement. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1967, Ekushey Padak in 1983, and Independence Day Award in 2009.
Ekushey Padak is the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh, introduced in memory of the martyrs of the Bengali Language Movement of 1952. The award is given to recognize contributions in a number of fields, including culture, education, and economics. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs administers the award.
Mahbub Ul Alam Choudhury was a Bangladeshi poet, journalist, and activist in the Bengali Language Movement. He wrote the first poem on the Bengali Language Movement. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2009 by the Government of Bangladesh.
Comilla Victoria Government College, mostly known as Comilla Victoria College, is a government college in Comilla, Bangladesh. It is one of the oldest and most renowned colleges in Comilla as well as in the Chittagong division. The degree and honours branch of the college is located in Dharmapur area of Cumilla district. The college was named after Queen Victoria, once the Queen of British Raj.

Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad is a Bangladeshi economist and development thinker and activist. He is currently the chairman of Dhaka School of Economics (DScE), a constituent institution of the University of Dhaka, devoted to post-graduate studies in economics and related subjects. He is former chairman of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), which is largest rural development funding, skill development and management support agency in Bangladesh. He received the highest national civilian award Independence Award 2019; and Ekushe Padak 2009, presented by the Government of Bangladesh.
Shamsuzzaman Khan was a Bangladeshi academician, folklorist, and writer who served as president of the Bangla Academy from June 2020 until his death in April 2021. He also served as the director general of the academy during 2009–2018. He was notable for editing book series on folk culture of 64 different districts in 64 volumes and collections of folklore series in 114 volumes. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2001, Ekushey Padak in 2009 and Independence Day Award in 2017 by the government of Bangladesh.
Sanat Kumar Saha is a Bangladeshi educator, economist and Tagore exponent. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2015 by the Government of Bangladesh. He served as a professor of economics at the University of Rajshahi. He is a former member of the board of directors of Bangladesh Bank.
Jahangir Alam Khan is a Bangladeshi agricultural economist and researcher. He is the incumbent Vice Chancellor of the University of Global Village (UGV). Prior to his appointment in the university, he was the director general of Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI). He also served as a director of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council. In recognition of his contribution in research, the government of Bangladesh awarded him the country's second highest civilian award Ekushey Padak in 2020.
Md. Shamsul Haque was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Mymensingh-2 and Mymensingh-15 constituencies. He was elected to parliament from Mymensingh-11 as a Bangladesh Awami League candidate in 1991 and 1996.

Golam Mustafa was a Bangladeshi photographer. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2018 and Shilpakala Padak in 2016 in the photography category by the government of Bangladesh.
