Shared Ground is a Georgist political party in the United Kingdom, following the ideology of 19th-century economist Henry George. It was previously known as the Young People's Party UK until 3 October 2021. [3] It was founded in 2012 [4] and its leader has been Thomas Hall since March 2016. According to its manifesto, it intends to replace many taxes on the productive economy with a form of land value tax [5] and to replace the social security system with a citizens income. [6]
In 2012, Dr Rohen Kapur stood for the party at the Corby by-election [7] and Robin Smith stood for the party at the Croydon North by-election. [8] Neither won and both lost their deposits.
In 2018, Thomas Hall stood for the party at the Lewisham East by-election. [9] He received 18 votes (0.08%) meaning he lost his deposit.
In 2013 Gerard Mark Wadsworth stood for election to the Essex County Council division of Buckhurst Hill and Loughton South, gaining 21 votes (0.5% of the vote). [10]
In 2014 Gerard Mark Wadsworth stood for election to the Epping Forest District Council ward of Buckhurst Hill West, gaining 37 votes (2% of the vote). [11]

In July 2021 the Young People's Party applied to have their name changed to "Shared Ground". [16] The name change became official on 3 October 2021.

High Beach is a village inside Epping Forest and is located approximately eleven miles north east of central London. It is the only settlement inside Epping Forest, and falls within the civil parish of Waltham Abbey and the ward of Waltham Abbey High Beach in the Epping Forest District of Essex, and for statistical purposes forms part of the London Metropolitan Area and Greater London Urban Area.
The Corby by-election was a by-election held in England on 15 November 2012 to elect a new Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Corby in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. The election was held on the same day as by-elections in Cardiff South and Penarth and Manchester Central, the first direct election for the post of Mayor of Bristol, and the first Police and Crime Commissioner elections. Andy Sawford, the Labour Party candidate, won with 48% of the vote. The Conservatives' and Liberal Democrats' vote dropped significantly and UKIP came third with their highest-ever vote in a parliamentary by-election to that date.
