Shawn Roy is an American operatic bass-baritone and academic. Since 1998, he has served as the head of the opera program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Life and career

Roy was born and raised in Louisiana. He is a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana (Bachelor of Music Education) and the University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music (Master of Music in vocal performance and Artist Diploma in Opera).

In 1987 Roy portrayed the title role in the first professional production of Dominick Argento's Christopher Sly with the Center for Contemporary Opera in Manhattan. [1] In 1991, he portrayed Don Bartolo in The Marriage of Figaro with the Virginia Opera, and Don Pippo in Mozart's L'oca del Cairo for his debut with the New York City Opera. [2] [3] With the NYCO he toured North America in 1991-1992, performing the role of the Sacristan in Tosca in 57 cities. [4] In 1992, he returned to the Virginia Opera to perform the title role in Donizetti's Don Pasquale . [5]

In 1995, Roy performed the roles of Alcindoro and Benoit in Puccini's La boheme with the Utah Opera. [6] In 1996, he portrayed the Marchese d'Obigny in La traviata at the Tulsa Opera and appeared as Don Pasquale with the Arizona Opera. [7] [8] In 1997, he made his debut with Opera Omaha as Don Pasquale. He returned to the Utah Opera in 1998 as Dottore Grenvil in La traviata. [9] That same year he was seen at the Sarasota Opera as the Mayor in Leoš Janáček's Jenůfa . [10] Other companies he has sung roles with include the Cincinnati Opera, the Cleveland Opera, the Connecticut Opera, the Fort Worth Opera, and Opera Delaware.

Nashville Opera Association

The Nashville Opera Association is a professional opera company in Nashville, Tennessee and is a member of OPERA America. The company currently offers four fully staged opera productions and an educational outreach program during an annual season which runs from October through April. Performances are offered at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Downtown Nashville and the Noah Liff Opera Center in the Sylvan Heights section of West Nashville. Designed by architect Earl Swensson, the 26,000-square-foot (2,400 m2) Noah Liff Opera Center houses the company's executive offices, conference facilities, and a rehearsal studio.

Chad Shelton is an American operatic tenor. Particularly associated with the Houston Grand Opera (HGO), Shelton has excelled in performances of contemporary American operas and in the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Giuseppe Verdi. He has appeared in numerous world premieres with the HGO including Laurie in Mark Adamo's Little Women (1998), Nico in Adamo's Lysistrata (2005), and Ulises in Daniel Catán's Salsipuedes: a Tale of Love, War and Anchovies (2004) among others. He also sang the role of Brigadier General Edward Porter Alexander in the world premiere of Philip Glass's Appomattox at the San Francisco Opera (2007).

Robert Breault is an American operatic tenor. Born in Michigan, he holds a B.M. degree from St. Norbert College (1985) from which he received a distinguished alumni award in 1997. In addition, he holds a M.M. (1987), and a D.M.A. (1991) from the University of Michigan where he studied voice with soprano Lorna Haywood. His early training also included two years of study at the San Francisco Merola Opera Program, and an internship with Michigan Opera Theatre. He lives in Salt Lake City, Utah where he teaches voice and serves as Director of Opera at the University of Utah School of Music.

Asheville Lyric Opera (ALO) is a professional, non-profit opera company located in Asheville, North Carolina. Its repertoire encompasses styles ranging from the comedies of Mozart and Rossini to the classic Verdi and Puccini dramas as well as classic musical theatre works. Founder David Craig Starkey served as General and Artistic Director until 2016. The 500-seat Diana Wortham Theatre, built in 1991, has been the company's home since 2001. ALO is a member of Opera America. Dean Anthony was announced as the company's new Artistic and Producing Direction beginning with the 2019/2020 Season.

DuPage Opera Theatre

The DuPage Opera Theatre (DOT) is one of three professional opera companies located in the Chicago area, along with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Chicago Opera Theater. Founded in 1977 as a resident, professional ensemble at the McAninch Arts Center at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, DuPage Opera has mounted several hundred performances since its inception.

Loretta Di Franco is an American operatic soprano who is chiefly known for her more than 900 performances at the Metropolitan Opera from 1961-1995. Originally a member of the Met's opera chorus, she eventually was promoted to singing small comprimario roles beginning with one of the pages in Wagner's Tannhäuser and the peasant girl in The Marriage of Figaro in 1961.
