Shin So-jung (born March 4,1990) is a South Korean retired ice hockey goaltender and former member of the South Korean women's national ice hockey team and the Korean Unified women's ice hockey team,currently serving as an assistant coach to the South Korean national team. She was the first Korean to play professional women's ice hockey in North America,as a member of the New York Riveters in the 2016–17 season of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL;renamed PHF in 2021).
Shin played for three seasons with the St. Francis Xavier women's ice hockey program in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. During her seasons with the X-Women,she registered 37 wins,complemented by a 1.46 goals against average,and a save percentage of .944.
In her first season at St. Francis Xavier,she ranked first overall in Atlantic University Sport conference play with a 1.44 goals against average,while her .930 save percentage ranked second. [1]
During the 2014–15 season,Shin led all goaltenders in Canadian Interuniversity Sport play with an .875 winning percentage. In addition,she led all goaltenders in the Atlantic University Sport conference in both save percentage (.949) and goals against average (1.19). [2]
On July 27,2016,Shin signed as a free agent with the NWHL’s New York Riveters. [3] She played four games with the Riveters,earning one shutout.
As a member of the South Korean national women's ice hockey team,Shin has participated in seven IIHF World Championships at the Division II and Division III levels. Over the course of the seven appearances,she has accumulated a goals against average of 1.33 plus a .954 save percentage. In addition,she has participated at two Asian Winter Games,two IIHF Women's Challenge Cup of Asia tournaments,and the qualification round for Ice hockey at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
She was at the 2018 Winter Olympics [4] as part of a unified team of 35 players drawn from both North and South Korea. The team's coach was Sarah Murray and the team was in Group B competing against Switzerland,Japan and Sweden. [5] [6]
In June 2018,she announced her retirement from hockey. [7]
The 2004 IIHF World U18 Championships were held in Minsk,Belarus. The championships began on April 8,2004,and finished on April 18,2004. Games were played at the Ice Palace and Palace sport in Minsk. Russia defeated the United States 3–2 in the final to claim the gold medal,while the Czech Republic defeated Canada 3–2 to capture the bronze medal.
The 2008 IIHF World U18 Championship Division III was a pair of international under-18 ice hockey tournaments run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Division III tournaments made up the fourth level of competition at the 2008 IIHF World U18 Championships. The Group A tournament took place between 2 and 8 March 2008 in Mexico City,Mexico and the Group B tournament took place between 3 and 9 March 2008 in İzmit,Turkey. Mexico and Serbia won the Group A and Group B tournaments respectively and gained promotion to Division II for the 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships.
The 2010 IIHF World Championship Division II was a pair of international ice hockey tournaments organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The tournaments were contested between 10 and 17 April 2010. Participants in this championship were drawn into two separate tournament groups. The Group A tournament was contested in Naucalpan,Mexico. Group B's games were played in Narva,Estonia. Spain and Estonia won Group A and Group B,respectively,to earn promotion to Division I at the 2011 IIHF World Championship. Meanwhile,Turkey and Israel finished last in Group A and B and were relegated to Division III for 2011. These four teams were replaced by Serbia and Croatia,which were relegated from Division I,and Ireland and North Korea which earned promotion from Division III.

The 2011 IIHF World Championship Division II were international Ice Hockey tournaments run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Group A was contested from 4–10 April 2011 in Melbourne,Australia and Group B was contested from 10 to 16 April 2011 in Zagreb,Croatia. Prior to the start of the tournament the North Korean national team announced they would withdraw,citing financial reasons. All games against them were counted as a forfeit,with a score of 5–0 for the opposing team. This was the last year of parallel divisional tournaments so teams that finished third and above formed Group A for 2012,and the lower finishers formed Group B.

It was held from 15 February 2012 to 19 February 2012 in Qiqihar,China. Japan won the tournament for the second year in a row after defeating China's first team in the gold medal game. China's second team won bronze after defeating South Korea in the third place match.

She was named to the United States women's national ice hockey team,which represented the United States at the 2012 IIHF Women's World Championship. She won the 2012 Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award. She debuted for the U.S. national women's team at the 2014 4 Nations Cup in Kamloops,British Columbia,Canada.

The Group A tournament took place between 14 and 20 March 2005 in Kohtla-Järve,Estonia and the Group B tournament took place between 21 and 27 March 2004 in Bucharest,Romania. South Korea and Hungary won the Group A and Group B tournaments respectively and gained promotion to Division I for the 2006 IIHF World U18 Championships. While South Africa finished last in Group A and Romania last in Group B and were both relegated to Division III for 2006.

The tournaments made up the second,third and fourth levels of competition at the 2017 IIHF World Women's U18 Championships respectively. The Division I Group A tournament took place between 8 January and 14 January 2017 in Budapest,Hungary. The tournament was won by Germany who gained promotion to the Championship Division for 2018 while France finished last and was relegated to the Division I Group B competition. The Division I Group B tournament took place between 8 January and 14 January 2017 in Katowice,Poland. Italy won the tournament and gained promotion to Division I Group A while Kazakhstan was relegated to Division I Group B Qualification after finishing in last place. The Division I Group B Qualification tournament was held in San Sebastián,Spain from 26 January to 29 January 2017. The tournament was won by Australia who gained promotion to Division I Group B for 2018.
