The fifth season of the series Show Me the Money , known as Show Me the Money 5 (also referred to as SMTM5), premiered on May 6, 2016 and ended July 15, 2016. It is on broadcast every Friday at 23:00 KST on Mnet.
Mnet's fifth season of SMTM features YG Entertainment judges Kush and Zion.T, Dok2 and The Quiett from Illionaire Records, AOMG co-CEO Simon Dominic and producer Gray, and judges Mad Clown and Gill of Leessang. [1] A record-breaking number of 9,000 contestants auditioned this season.
The process of SMTM5 was similar to that of Show Me the Money 4 with open auditions where contestants were asked for an a cappella rap, but for the first time LA auditions were also held in addition to the traditional audition in Seoul. American rapper Timbaland was a guest judge during Round 2 of the LA auditions.

Round One: Contestants must rap a cappella in front of a judge. The contestants are given a necklace if they pass.
Round Two: Contestants prepare a one-minute rap using the beat of their choice and rap in front of all the judges. In order to pass onto the next round, they must receive at least one pass.

Round Three: Contestants pair up for a 1v1 rap battle. Prior to this round, all the rappers participate in a cypher in order to assess each other's skills. Only one person can win the battle and move onto the next round. Unlike previous seasons, there was no revival round in SMTM5.

(*) Miss LA (from the LA auditions) was chosen by the show's producers as a replacement for fellow LA contestant Legendary Temo after not making it to the later rounds due to Visa Issues. Unlike the other LA rappers that made it through auditions, she did not participate in the Cypher Round of the show.
Round Four: Contestants and judges must choose each other for the contestant to become part of the Top 16. If the contestant fails to get a match with one of the judging teams, they are eliminated. This round deviates from the typical SMTM team selection process.
Round Five: The new teams participate in a team song mission to assess their rapping and teamwork skills. The worst rapper in the team is eliminated by their team's producers.

Round Seven: Following the results of the team diss battles, losing teams face against each other and winning teams face against each other at the live performances. Losing team producers choose one rapper to perform during the live show. The two remaining rappers write verses for a collaboration song written by their producers. Prior to the live show, the two rappers go through a mic-selection, where the producers choose one rapper to perform with them. The other rapper is eliminated from the show. Meanwhile, the winning teams choose one rapper to perform on their own and the remaining two rappers perform a song together.

Round Eight: Semi-finals. - The remaining six contestants will have solo performances with a special guest performer(s) with each of them matched-up against another contestant. The contestant who earned more amount of money during their match-up will advance to the final round, while the other gets eliminated.

Round Nine: Finals – The final round is televised live with 50% of the votes from the TV audience and the remaining 50% from the live audience. In the first part of the finals, all three remaining finalists will perform live on stage with their producers. The finalist who receives the least money through audience votes in the first part of the finals will be eliminated. In the second part of the finals, the final two contestants will have one last performance alone or with a special guest featuring. The contestant who earned the most money will be this season's champion.

Korean hip-hop, also known as K-hip-hop or K-rap, is a subgenre of the South Korean popular music.
Lee Joon-kyung better known by his stage name Dok2, is a South Korean rapper, record producer and co-founder of now-defunct Illionaire Records.
Survival Audition K-pop Star is a South Korean reality TV competition series where three entertainment/talent agencies in South Korea hold worldwide auditions to find the next potential K-Pop stars. Preliminary auditions are held around the world in Asia, North America, South America, Europe, and Australia. The final winner debuts with the company of his or her choice, along with a cash prize of three hundred million won, two brand new vehicles, opportunities to become commercial models and casting in dramas, and many more benefits.
The second season of the South Korean reality television competition show K-pop Star premiered on SBS on November 18, 2012, airing Sunday evenings at 4:55 pm KST as part of the Good Sunday lineup. Yoon Do-hyun returned as host and narrator, and Boom returned as live host. Yang Hyun-suk, Park Jin-young, and BoA returned as judges. The season ended on April 6, 2013, with Akdong Musician crowned as winner and chose to sign with YG Entertainment.
The first season of Survival Audition K-pop Star premiered on December 4, 2011, airing every Sunday evening at 6:30 pm under the Good Sunday programming block on SBS, until April 29, 2012. The first winner was Park Ji-min, who chose to sign with JYP Entertainment.
The third season of the South Korean reality television competition show K-pop Star premiered on SBS on November 24, 2013, airing Sunday evenings at 4:55 pm KST as part of the Good Sunday lineup. The third season of Show Me the Money (SMTM3), which aired in 2014, saw a huge change in production as prominent figures of the Korean hip-hop scene participated in the show. Over 3,000 people auditioned this season, 1.5 times the amount last season, including underground rappers, non-Koreans, students, and previous SMTM contestants. The winner receives one hundred million won prize money, a record deal, and an opportunity to hold a special performance.
The Rap of China, formerly known as, is a Chinese rap competition show produced by iQiyi. The show was carried out in the form of three groups of producers Kris Wu, Will Pan, MC HotDog and Chang Chen-yue judging the performance of the participating students, and received great attention. In the end, after fierce competition among players and difficult choices of producers, China's hip-hop first season produced two annual championships, GAI (musician) and PG ONE.
The sixth season of the series Show Me the Money, known as Show Me the Money 6, premiered on June 30, 2017 and ended on September 1, 2017. It is on broadcast every Friday at 23:00 KST on Mnet.
Mix Nine was a South Korean survival reality show broadcast on JTBC. In the show, YG Entertainment founder and producer Yang Hyun-suk traveled to music agencies across Korea to find up-and-coming K-pop stars. Throughout the episodes, contestants were progressively eliminated, culminating in a competition between a team of the final nine boys and one of the final nine girls. The winning team was to debut as idols, but their debut was ultimately cancelled following contract disputes between YG Entertainment and the contestants' respective agencies.

The ninth season of the series Show Me the Money premiered on October 16, 2020, and ended on December 18, 2020. It was broadcast every Friday at 23:00 (KST) on Mnet. The season returned to four producing teams, after having featured only two in the previous season. Dynamic Duo & Bewhy, Paloalto & Code Kunst, Zion.T & Giriboy, and Justhis & GroovyRoom formed the producing teams for the season.
The tenth season of the series Show Me the Money premiered on October 1, 2021. It was broadcast every Friday at 23:00 (KST) on Mnet. The season featured four new producer teams Yumdda and Toil, Gaeko and Code Kunst, Gray and Mino, and Zion.T and Slom.
The eleventh season of the series Show Me the Money premiered on October 21, 2022. It aired every Friday at 23:00 (KST) on Mnet. The season featured four new producer teams in Lil Boi & GroovyRoom, Jay Park & Slom, The Quiett & Leellamarz, and Justhis & R. Tee.
