Allkpop (stylized in all lowercase) is an American website which features Korean pop [1] and gossip [2] news. It is one of the most trafficked K-pop news sites, with over seven and half million readers per month. [3] In its list of useful websites, The Korea Herald called it the "fastest news breaker" for K-pop. [2]
In 2010, Tablo of Korean hip-hop trio Epik High alleged that allkpop had been sharing pirated links to the group's Epilogue album, including "a leaked music video of 'Run' and illegal streaming of all our songs" on his personal Twitter account. [4] Tablo has since removed the posts.
In 2013, scandal broke out again when solo K-pop artist Ailee's private, nude pictures were leaked with the allkpop logo posted across blurred photos in their coverage. [5] After facing backlash and lost follower counts, allkpop CEO Johnny Noh and staff member Matt Kim posted responses on their respective Twitter accounts. Noh defended the site saying, "it's our job to report on everything, good or bad" and denied allkpop being the source of the leaks. Noh concluded his statement saying, "But dont [sic] be suprised if in the new yr [sic] we blow some doors open." Kim said the photos were leaked online through a 'sex site.'" [6] No explanation about why allkpop's logo was attached to the photos was shared.
One day later, South Korean entertainment site Dispatch released an audio recording with Ailee's ex-boyfriend, Eun Duk "Daniel" Lee Lee who acted as the vice president of content for allkpop owner 6Theory Media, who was attempting to sell nude photos of the singer to the outlet. [7] In an official statement, 6Theory Media confirmed Lee had previously dated Ailee but "did not post the photos in question." [8] A week later, on November 18, Lee admitted it is his voice in the Dispatch call in which he attempted to sell nude photos of his ex-girlfriend but denied he leaked the pictures to his own publication. Speaking to SBS' One Night of TV Entertainment program where he did not reveal his face, Lee corroborated 6Theory Media's statement that while he did have the phone call, he did not publish the photos to his workplace's website. [9]
Ailee's Korean representation at the time, YMC Entertainment, explained in a statement that Ailee had been scammed by an offer to model for an underwear company and shared the photos with Lee "in order ot get advice on how to respond to the incident." YMC added, "Ailee shared the photos with him after her persuaded her that he needs the photos to get a better idea on the issue." [10]
The site and its leadership was brought under scrutiny again in January 2025 following its official X account sharing political content including content from Alex Jones, the American far-right [11] radio show host and conspiracy theorist [12] . While allkpop's political posts were removed within 24 hours, political posts from Noh remained as of January 22, 2025. [13]
Korean hip-hop, also known as K-hip-hop or K-rap, is a subgenre of the South Korean popular music.
Epik High (Korean: 에픽하이) is a South Korean hip-hop trio formed in 2001, composed of rapper and songwriter Tablo, rapper and lyricist Mithra Jin, and DJ and record producer DJ Tukutz. Based in Seoul, the trio first met in 2001 before signing with Woollim Entertainment and released their first two studio albums, Map of the Human Soul (2003) and High Society (2004), to minor success. The trio rose to fame with the release of their follow-up studio albums, Swan Songs (2005), Remapping the Human Soul (2007), and Pieces, Part One (2008), spawning the hit singles "Fly", "Paris", "Fan", "Love Love Love", "One" and "Umbrella". Although the majority of these albums were censored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism due to strong language and themes of crimes, war, religion, and education, Epik High established themselves as one of the leading hip-hop artists in the country, gaining a cult following and critical acclaim.
Miss A was a South Korean girl group formed by AQ Entertainment, a subsidiary of JYP Entertainment. The group debuted in July 2010 with the single "Bad Girl Good Girl" as a quartet consisting of Fei, Jia, Min, and Suzy. Their debut song reached number one on the Gaon Digital Chart, which made them the first act ever to have their debut song reach the top of the chart; the song also became the best-performing single of 2010 on the chart.
Remapping the Human Soul is the fourth studio album by South Korean hip hop trio Epik High. It was released through Woollim Entertainment and CJ Music on January 23, 2007, and contains 27 tracks on two CDs. The singles "Fan" and "Love Love Love" were promoted as part of the album.
Yang Hyun-suk is a South Korean music executive, rapper, dancer, songwriter, and record producer. He rose to fame as a member of Seo Taiji and Boys during the 1990s. After the group disbanded, he founded and became the executive producer and chairman of YG Entertainment, the fourth-largest record company in South Korea.
Daniel Armand Lee, better known by his stage name Tablo (타블로), is a Canadian hip hop rapper, songwriter and record producer of South Korean origin. Secret (Korean: 시크릿) was a South Korean K-pop girl group formed by TS Entertainment in 2009. The group originally debuted with four members: Jun Hyo-seong, Jung Ha-na, Song Ji-eun and Han Sun-hwa. They released their debut single I Want You Back October 2009. Secret's debut single did not meet great success and it was not until the following year that the group saw a rise in popularity. In 2010, Secret released two singles Magic and Madonna which earned much attention with both singles peaking at No. 2 and No. 1 respectively on the Gaon Digital Chart. With the success of "Magic" and "Madonna", the group received the "Newcomer Award" at the 25th Golden Disk Awards.

K-Town was created as part of the popular music publication's website relaunch, with new features for fans, and the goal of providing more on-site reporting of festivals, award shows, and other major music events.

The album was released first in a half album format, the first half being released on March 9, 2016 and the full album released digitally on April 20, 2016, and physically a week later.
