The Black Label Inc. (Korean : 더 블랙 레이블; stylized in all caps or THEBLΛƆKLΛBEL) is a South Korean record label and an associate company of YG Entertainment. It was founded in 2015 by YG producer Teddy and Kush.

History

On September 22, 2015, YG Entertainment announced the creation of the independent sub-label to be headed by YG producers Teddy and Kush. [5] On March 17, 2016, Zion.T signed with the label. [6] On May 3, 2017, Okasian signed an exclusive contract with the label. [7] Danny Chung (formerly known as Decipher) has also signed with the label.[ citation needed ][ when? ] The label is also home to Jeon Somi, who signed with the label in September 2018, and debuted on June 13, 2019. [8] On November 16, 2020, as per the quarterly stock report of YG Entertainment, the label was converted to an associate company status. [9] On December 26, 2022, the company announced Taeyang joined the label but remained a member of the boy group Big Bang. [10] In January 2023, actor Park Bo-gum signed with the label. [11] In April 2023, The Black Label formed a joint venture with Thailand's largest conglomerate Charoen Pokphand Group called The Black Sea to expand its label into the Southeast Asian region. [12] On June 18, 2024, The Black Label announced that they had signed a management contract with Rosé from a girl group Blackpink for her solo endeavors. [13] On July 1st, 2024, The Black Label announced the end of their exclusive contract with Zion.T. [14] On August 16, 2024, The Black Label announced the launch of their first girl group, Meovv. The group debuted on September 6, 2024. [15]

Dong Young-bae, better known by his stage name Taeyang or SOL, is a South Korean singer. He made his debut in 2006 as a member of the South Korean boy band BigBang. Following the release of several albums and extended plays with his group, Taeyang pursued a solo career in 2008, releasing his first extended play, Hot. The EP was acclaimed by critics and went to win the award for Best R&B & Soul Album at the 6th Korean Music Awards. Hot was followed by his first full-length studio album Solar (2010), which was released in July 2010 and peaked atop the Gaon Album Chart.

Teddy Park is a Korean–American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Park moved to the United States with his family as a young child. When he was 17 years old, Park and his friend Danny flew to South Korea during summer vacation to audition for YG Entertainment. Both were signed immediately, and after finishing high school in the States, moved to Korea to pursue music.

Sixteen is a 2015 reality girl group survival show created by JYP Entertainment and Mnet. The show pitted sixteen trainees against one another to secure a spot in the girl group Twice. Sixteen contestants were assessed not just by their singing and dancing abilities but also their charisma and personality. The show ran from May 5 to July 7 on Mnet for ten episodes.

She quickly achieved domestic fame as the first-place winner of the survival reality show Produce 101 and a member of the show's eleven-piece project girl group I.O.I. Following the conclusion of I.O.I's group activities, Jeon signed with YG Entertainment's subsidiary, The Black Label. She made her debut as a solo artist on June 13, 2019, with the single "Birthday". In 2021, she released her first studio album XOXO, which included the top-ten single "Dumb Dumb". She achieved her first top-five single in South Korea with "Fast Forward" in 2023.

<i>Next Episode</i> (EP) 2021 EP by AKMU

Next Episode is the second extended play (EP) by South Korean brother-sister duo AKMU. It was released digitally on July 26, 2021, and physically on July 27, through YG Entertainment. The EP marks the duo's first album release in nearly two years, since Sailing in September 2019. Described as a "collaboration album", it comprises seven songs, with each track featuring a different artist. "Nakka" serves as the lead single for the album.

<i>XOXO</i> (Jeon Somi album) 2021 studio album by Jeon Somi

XOXO is the debut studio album by Canadian-South Korean singer-songwriter Jeon Somi. It was released on October 29, 2021, by The Black Label and distributed through YG Plus and Interscope Records. The album consists of eight tracks and was supported by four singles: "Birthday", "What You Waiting For", "Dumb Dumb", and "XOXO". The album features a guest appearance by South Korean rapper and singer Giriboy.

Lee Seung-joo, better known by his stage name Loren, is a South Korean singer, songwriter and producer under The Black Label, and releases music through his own indie label Fire Exit Records. He debuted as a singer on November 13, 2020, with his heavy rock track "Empty Trash". He is credited as a producer on G-Dragon's 2017 song, "개소리 (Bullshit)", and as a lyricist on Blackpink's songs "Pretty Savage", "You Never Know", and "Lovesick Girls."

"Vibe" is a song by South Korean singer Taeyang, featuring Jimin of BTS. It was released through The Black Label on January 13, 2023 as the pre-release single from Taeyang's second extended play Down to Earth. The track marked his first release in over five years since White Night (2017). It was written by Taeyang and Vince and composed by Teddy, Kush, Vince, Taeyang, Jimin and 24. The song charted in over fifteen countries and reached number 76 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Ella McKenzie Gross, also known mononymously as Ella, is an American singer, child model, and actress. She first began her career as a model at age two and has modeled for fashion brands such as H&M, Levi's, and GAP. As a singer, Gross debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group Meovv on 6 September 2024, under The Black Label.

Meovv is a South Korean girl group formed and managed by The Black Label. The group consists of five members: Sooin, Gawon, Anna, Narin, and Ella. They debuted on September 6, 2024, with the release of their digital single "Meow".
