Silviu Lung (born 4 June 1989) is a Romanian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Liga I club Universitatea Craiova.

International career

He played his first match for Romania in 2010, being used by coach Răzvan Lucescu to replace Bogdan Lobonț in the last 7 minutes of a friendly match against Honduras which ended with a 3–0 victory. [1] [2] His second game was a 1–1 against Albania at the Euro 2012 qualifiers and his last game was 2–1 loss against Algeria in a friendly. [1] [3] [4] He was an unused member at Euro 2016. In 2020 he announced his international retirement, after having no caps in the last 6 years. [5]

Personal life

Lung's father and older brother Tiberiu were also professional footballers. [6]

Universitatea Craiova was a Romanian professional football club based in Craiova, Dolj County. Between 1948 and 1991, Universitatea won four national titles and five national cups. In addition to its domestic success, its reputation as a major club in the country was established by being the first Romanian team to reach the semi-finals of a UEFA tournament, and remains the only one to have knocked out at least one club from each of five strongest countries in European football—England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The 2024–25 season is the 77th season in the history of CS Universitatea Craiova, and the club's 11th consecutive season in Liga I. In addition to the domestic league, the team is scheduled to participate in the Cupa României and the UEFA Conference League.
