Simon Francis Dumont (born July 9, 1986) is an American freestyle skier.
Dumont is known for his exceptional amplitude in half-pipe competitions, regularly reaching heights up to 20 feet out of the pipe, and for his signature big-air trick, the superman double-frontflip. In 2006-07, Dumont overshot a 100-foot jump in Park City, Utah, by some eighty feet, landing flat, rupturing his spleen and breaking his pelvis in three places, but he returned to skiing only two months later.[ citation needed ] In 2009 he won the X Games Big Air competition by landing a double-frontflip. [1]
Dumont has participated in many freestyle events, mostly in the categories of big air and half-pipe, and was part of Team America for the Jon Olsson Super Sessions (JOSS) along with American freestyle skiers Tom Wallisch, and Alex Schlopy. However, the group has withdrawn from all future JOSS events because of an argument with Olsson about the release date of their video for the competition.
In 2008, Jon Olsson and Dumont announced their involvement in a new open freeskiing event, the North American Open, at Breckenridge, Colorado.
On April 11, 2008, Simon Dumont set the current world quarter-pipe height record at Sunday River in Bethel, Maine. He aired 35.5 feet out of a 38-foot quarter-pipe, while performing a cork 900 tail grab. [2] Previous attempts earlier in the week had resulted in Dumont falling 55 feet after hitting an over-vert section of the quarter-pipe. On various other attempts, Simon hit the snow with a flat landing, severely bruising his heel in the process. On April 22, 2008, Dumont was a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where he discussed his record-setting performance.
On April 11, 2009, Dumont hosted what was called the inaugural occasion of an annual contest for skiers ranging in age from about 8 to 18 at Sunday River. [3] A specific course was set out for the contest with a combination of rails, boxes, and jumps. All entrants had a chance to qualify for the final few runs with pro skiers like Dumont, with a chance to win a spot on the podium. The first-place prize was $10,000,[ citation needed ] won by American freestyle skier Tom Wallisch.
The second edition of the Dumont Cup was held on March 27, 2010, and was won by amateur freeskier Alex Schlopy. Schlopy out-skied 105 amateur athletes to gain entry into today's semi-finals and finals. During finals, Schlopy and nine others competed against such freeski professionals as Simon Dumont, Peter Olenick, Jossi Wells, and Henrik Harlaut. Schlopy was joined on the podium with Joss Christensen from Park City, Utah who took second place and the 2009 winner of the first-ever Dumont Cup, Tom Wallisch from Salt Lake City, Utah, who took third. Schlopy walked away with $12,000 in cash plus a one-week scholarship to Camp Woodward, an action sports camp and training facility located in Woodward, Penn.
On March 26, 2011 Dumont hosted the 3rd Dumont Cup, changing up the course from the previous years. Nick Goepper got first followed by Gus Kensworthy and Jacob Wester in second and third.
The fourth annual Dumont cup took place March 24, 2012 despite record-high temperatures and low snow levels. [4] Gus Kenworthy, 2011's runner-up, placed first. Nick Goepper placed second followed by Joss Christensen who placed third.

On April 25, 2009, Simon participated in the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup season opening race at Virginia International Raceway as a guest driver in the Red Bull-sponsored #10. [5] Qualifying 25th, he moved up six positions to finish 19th in the 30-minute race. After his performance, Simon commented on a possible future in road racing, saying:
"The entire experience was way more than I ever imagined that it would be. The first time for me to get in a professional-level racecar was yesterday, and I'm definitely hooked," said Dumont. "My goal heading into this was to try to be competitive and not finish last, and I accomplished both goals. I'm going to do some work with my personal sponsors when I get home to see if I might be able to give the series a try full time next year." [6]
Simon also expressed interest in racing full-time after retiring from skiing. [5]
Dumont was born in Bethel, Maine on July 9, 1986, to Francis and Barbara Dumont. Simon has an older brother, a younger sister, and a multitude of cousins. Simon Dumont is Passamaquoddy. Dumont weighs 150 pounds (68 kg) and is 5 feet 7 inches (1.70 m) tall. [7]
He attended Telstar Regional High School in Bethel, where he graduated in 2004. He was a participant in the school's golf program as well as a star soccer player. His home ski resort is Sunday River. Simon also was a child model, and at one point even auditioned for Home Alone three. Simon credits pro skiers Angus Nelson and Jonathan Schulz for his inspiration to start skiing.

Dumont opened up his own clothing company, Empire Attire, in 2008. With his own company, he strives to create things "made by the athletes for the athletes." His company has been successful so far, and has their own website EmpireAttire.com. He has just recently released his line of 2010 products for purchase online. He is also a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays.

He first became recognized at the X Games when he was fifteen. At sixteen he competed in Honda Sessions at Vail Resort in Colorado. At seventeen, he won his first gold medals. At age eighteen, he was badly injured in a failed jump at Park City. The video of that crash -- he plummets eighty feet to the ground -- became an internet phenomenon. Dumont admits he's lucky to be alive. He fractured his pelvis and ruptured his spleen, but just six weeks later he returned to the slopes. Dumont, now 23, figures he's got 3 years of freestyle left in him. "Then I'd like to go backcountry and start landing in powder," he says, "it doesn't hurt so much."[ citation needed ]
Freestyle skiing is a skiing discipline comprising aerials, moguls, cross, half-pipe, slopestyle and big air as part of the Winter Olympics. It can consist of a skier performing aerial flips and spins and can include skiers sliding rails and boxes on their skis. Known as "hot-dogging" in the early 1970s, it is also commonly referred to as freeskiing, jibbing, as well as many other names, around the world.

Freeskiing, or new school skiing, is a specific type of alpine skiing, which involves tricks, jumps, and terrain park features, such as rails, boxes, jibs, or other obstacles. This form of skiing resulted from the growth of snowboarding combined with the progression of freestyle skiing. "Newschoolers", or those who specifically ski in this style, as opposed to traditional freestylers, freeriders, big mountain skiers, and racers, are often found in terrain parks, which are designed specifically for tricks.
Slopestyle is a winter sport in which athletes ski or snowboard down a course including a variety of obstacles including rails, jumps and other terrain park features. Points are scored for amplitude, originality and quality of tricks. The discipline has its roots in action sports like skateboarding and BMX and has very successfully crossed over into the snow sports worlds of skiing and snowboarding. Skiers use Twin-tip skis for their symmetry since they often go large portions of the course backward and for their balanced weight so as to not destabilize spins. Slopestyle tricks fall mainly into four categories: spins, grinds, grabs and flips, and most tricks done in competition are a combination of these.

Jon Anders Olsson is a former professional freeskier and alpine ski racer from Sweden. Born in Mora, Olsson started his career as a ski racer but at age 16 he switched his race skis for twin tips and quit ski racing. Eight years later, after a 50 000 SEK (US$5826.22) bet with fellow skier Jens Byggmark, Olsson started ski racing again with the goal of the bets being to make it to the Olympics in 2014. He now competes in both freestyle and ski racing. Olsson is known for his invention of several new double flips, including a D-spin 720 into a flatspin 540, a switch double rodeo 1080, a double flatspin 900, and a switch cork 720 to flatspin 540.
Andreas Håtveit, is a Norwegian freestyle skier. He won a gold medal in Ski Slopestyle at the 2008 Winter X Games XII in Aspen, Colorado.
Sunday River is a ski resort located in Newry, Maine, in the United States. It is one of Maine's largest and most visited ski resorts. Its vertical drop of 2,340 feet (710 m) is the second largest in Maine and the sixth largest in New England. Sunday River has the most terrain among the East Coast skiing destinations, including eight different peaks. The resort features 135 trails across eight interconnected mountain peaks, and is serviced by a network of 18 lifts.
Aerial skiing or aerials is a freestyle skiing discipline where athletes ski down a slope to launch themselves off a kicker and perform multiple twists and flips before landing on an inclined landing hill. Aerialists are scored on their jumps based on air, form and landing with their score multiplied by the degree of difficulty of the jump they performed.
Hans Anders Olsson is a Swedish former alpine skier. He represented Sweden at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, where he came 12th in downhill. He also represented Sweden at the 2007, 2009 and 2011 Alpine World Ski Championships. Olsson specialised in the speed disciplines of super-G and particularly downhill.
Alex Schlopy is an American freeskier from Park City, Utah. He was the winner of a gold medal at the 2011 Winter X Games in the big air contest. The following week, he won the gold medal in slopestyle at the 2011 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships.

Representing the United States of America, Goepper won a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia and won a silver medal at both the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea and the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. He has also won four gold medals and two silver medals at the Winter X Games. His sponsors include PowerBar, Red Bull, Kulkea, and Völkl.

Augustus Richard Kenworthy is a British-American former freestyle skier, actor, and YouTuber. He has competed in slopestyle, halfpipe, and big air. Kenworthy won the silver medal in men's slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. As of 2019 Kenworthy represents Great Britain. He was cast as Chet Clancy in the ninth season of the horror anthology series American Horror Story: 1984.
Winter X Games XIX were held from January 21 to January 25, 2015, in Aspen, Colorado. They were the 14th consecutive Winter X Games to be held in Aspen. The events were broadcast on ESPN. The games featured participants from the United States, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Japan, New Zealand, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Australia.
Polartec Big Air At Fenway is a big air snowboarding and skiing competition that took place on February 11–12, 2016. The spectacle was held at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. This is the first such event held at Fenway Park and was part of the U.S. Grand Prix Tour and the International Ski Federation's World Tour. A 25,000 person audience was expected over the course of the two days. The Winter clothing brand, Polartec, chose to sign on as the title sponsor. Polartec's North American Marketing Manager, Darren Jorsey, stated, "We want to continue to invest in the sports that push the boundaries of athletes and their apparel”.
The men's slopestyle competition in freestyle skiing at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 14 February (qualification) and 16 February (final), at the Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou. Alex Hall of the United States won the event, which was his first Olympic medal. The 2018 silver medalist, Nick Goepper, also of the United States, won silver again. Jesper Tjäder of Sweden was third, also his first Olympic medal.
