Sings Man on the Silver Mountain and 8 Other Songs is a His Name Is Alive compilation album, released in 1992. Despite being an American band, His Name Is Alive was signed to the British 4AD label, and had no American distribution for their first three releases on 4AD. US-based Rykodisc re-issued the albums in the summer of 1992, shortly before 4AD signed a distribution deal with Warner Bros. Records so that all 4AD releases would see release in the United States. Bonus tracks were included on two CDs: Livonia featured an extra track called "Livonia", and Home Is in Your Head included The Dirt Eaters EP . To commemorate these releases, Rykodisc issued this compilation as a promotional item to record stores. Many die-hard fans of 4AD and HNIA, despite likely having all the songs included already, sought out and obtained the compilation CD to add to their collection. The artwork was based on the inside sleeve artwork from the 4AD UK release of Home Is in Your Head.

His Name Is Alive

His Name Is Alive is an American experimental rock band/project from Livonia, Michigan, United States. After several self-released cassettes, they debuted on 4AD Records in 1990, starting a long run at the label. Throughout the band's long history, leader Warren Defever has been the only constant member, with a variety of musicians and singers contributing over the years.

4AD record label

4AD is a British independent record label, founded by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent in 1980. It was originally funded by, and an imprint of, Beggars Banquet.

Rykodisc was an American record label. Its catalog is owned by Warner Music Group, operating as a unit of WMG's Independent Label Group and is distributed through Alternative Distribution Alliance.

This was also a significant release because it was the first introduction to the band for many American fans. Many who had only read about the band while the records were only available in the UK (or as pricey imports) found this CD their introduction to the band; an introduction that for many led to obsessive fanship.

The title track, "Man on the Silver Mountain," is a cover of a Rainbow song from their first album, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow .
