Home Is in Your Head is the second studio album by His Name Is Alive, originally released via 4AD in the UK on September 9, 1991, and on Rykodisc in the United States in 1992.
Like their 4AD debut, Livonia , His Name Is Alive's Home Is in Your Head comprises tracks that originated in Warren Defever's basement on a 4-track recorder, later remixed by Ivo Watts-Russell and John Fryer into something suitable for release. [4]
"Sitting Still Moving Still Staring Outlooking" was later used in the 1996 film Jerry Maguire in a key scene when Tom Cruise is having a nervous breakdown. [5]
"There's Something Between Us and He's Changing My Words" is a cover of a song by Bone Machine, which consisted of Defever, guitarist Jymn Auge and drummer Scott "Scoot" Mackenzie, and released their sole album in 1989. Auge had guested on Livonia, and, by this album, he was a full-time member of HNIA. "Man on the Silver Mountain" is a cover of a song by Rainbow.
A hidden song is included on the last track. After a brief moment of silence following the conclusion of "Dreams Are of the Body," a song called "The Other Body" begins. This is a demo track that ends abruptly, as the tape ran out during recording.
The album was only available in the United States as an import until 1992, when Rykodisc issued the album domestically on CD. The Rykodisc release, which is now out of print, also contained The Dirt Eaters EP , which had been released in the UK in early 1992. When 4AD reissued the album on CD in 1998, they also included these tracks. The Rykodisc version featured a different album cover, which was a slightly re-worked version of the back cover of the 4AD release.

It'll End in Tears is the first album released by 4AD collective This Mortal Coil, an umbrella title for a loose grouping of guest musicians and vocalists brought together by label boss Ivo Watts-Russell. The album was released on 1 October 1984, and reached #38 on the UK Albums Chart. It features many of the artists on the 4AD roster at the time, including Cocteau Twins, Colourbox, and Dead Can Dance; as well as key post-punk figure Howard Devoto, who sang "Holocaust", one of two covers of songs from the Third/Sister Lovers album by Big Star. The other Alex Chilton-penned track, album opener "Kangaroo", was released as a single to promote the album. Two key songs were performed by Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins, including Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren", which reached #66 on the UK Charts when released as This Mortal Coil's debut single a year before the album. The song remained on the UK Indie Chart for almost two years. Fraser also performed on "Another Day" by Roy Harper. 4AD would go on to release two further albums under the name of This Mortal Coil: Filigree & Shadow (1986) and Blood (1991).

The album was released in September 1986, and entered the UK Independent Music chart on 11 October 1986 and peaked at #2, spending 16 weeks on the chart in total.
Detrola is an album by His Name Is Alive, released in 2006. Four years after being dropped from the 4AD roster, HNIA released this album on their own Silver Mountain Media Group label. While many of the band's longtime fans had been disappointed with the group's final two albums for 4AD, fan reception to Detrola was quite positive, with many observing that it was finally a proper follow-up to 1998's 4AD release Ft. Lake.
Songs for a Blue Guitar is the fifth studio album by Red House Painters, released on July 22, 1996 in the UK, and a day later in the US. It is effectively a Mark Kozelek solo album, since no other members of the band are listed in the liner notes. The album introduced heavier, electric guitar driven rock to their sound in songs like "Make Like Paper", and Kozelek's cover of Paul McCartney & Wings' "Silly Love Songs".

This was the first album by an American band to be released on 4AD, which had concentrated primarily on British-based acts up to this point. The release marked a shift in the label's direction; a year later 4AD would sign Pixies based in part on the band's connection to Throwing Muses, and by the mid-1990s much of the label's roster was made up of American bands.

Sleeps with the Fishes is the lone collaborative album from Clan of Xymox founding member Pieter Nooten and Canadian guitarist/producer Michael Brook, released by 4AD on 12 October 1987. Intended as Nooten's debut solo album after a brief split from Clan of Xymox, the record turned into a collaboration with Brook after a suggestion from 4AD label founder and boss Ivo Watts-Russell. Though not a huge commercial success, Sleeps with the Fishes was described by AllMusic as "essential listening for fans of 4AD, ambient music, minimalism, experimental electronic music, and morose themes alike... an overlooked masterpiece."
