Jones and produced by The Ethnic Boyz. The song contains a sample of "You're Too Good To Me" by the soul musician Curtis Mayfield, which was also sampled by American singer-songwriter Mary J. Blige on her single "Be Happy" for her second album My Life (1994). Both songs were recorded in 1994.

The track contains a re-recorded sample of "Act Like You Know" by American R&B group Fat Larry's Band. "Greatest Day" became Knight's highest-charting single up to that point when it peaked at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart. The music video for the song was shot by director Jake Nava, who had previously shot Beverley's "Made It Back '99" video.

The Fifth Chapter is the ninth studio album by English singer Beverley Knight. It was released by Tag8 Music and BMG Rights Management on 29 September 2023, being both her first album in seven years and her first collection of original material in fourteen years. The album celebrates Knight's 50th birthday, and she explained: "I feel as though I am about to step into a whole new level of wonder because I have come into my power. My career is not a big shiny billboard poster that gets replaced with the next star in waiting. Mine is a novel, and I just entered the Fifth and most exciting chapter of it."
