Hindi literature includes literature in the various Hindi languages which have different writing systems. Earliest forms of Hindi literature are attested in poetry of Apabhraṃśa like Awadhi, Magadhi, Ardhamagadhi and Marwari languages. Hindi literature is composed in three broad styles- गद्य (Gadya-prose), पद्य( Padya- poetry) and चम्प्पू In terms of historical development, it is broadly classified into five prominent forms (genres) based on the date of production. They are:
Sachchidananda Hirananda Vatsyayan, popularly known by his pen name Agyeya, was an Indian writer, poet, novelist, literary critic, journalist, translator and revolutionary in Hindi language. He pioneered modern trends in Hindi poetry, as well as in fiction, criticism and journalism. He is regarded as the pioneer of the Prayogavaad (experimentalism) movement in modern Hindi literature.
Gorkhapatra is the oldest Nepali language state-owned national daily newspaper of Nepal. It was started as a weekly newspaper in May 1901 and became a daily newspaper in 1961. It is managed by the Gorkhapatra Sansthan. The Rising Nepal is the sister newspaper of Gorkhapatra in English language.
Bharat Dutta Koirala, the winner of the 2002 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communication Arts, is one of the most prominent senior journalists of Nepal with a professional career of over four decades. He started his career in journalism as the chief reporter of The Rising Nepal in 1965 and became editor of Gorkhapatra and executive chairman and general manager of Gorkhapatra Corporation. He is also the founder of many organizations such as Nepal Press Institute, Nepal Forum for Environmental Journalist, Media Services International, and Radio Sagarmatha, the first independent private FM radio station. Awarded the Knight International Press Fellowship Award by the International Center for Journalists in Washington, D.C. and the Ramon Magsaysay Foundation in Manila, Philippines, he also pioneered the publication of a Nepalese Wall Newspaper, and is credited with introducing reporting on development of rural Nepal. Presently, he is the Secretary General of Nepal Press Institute, Chairman of Media Services International, and Chairman of Himal Association. He is a prominent media teacher in Nepal who produces many professional journalists.
Janakpurdham or Janakpur is a sub-metropolitan city in Dhanusha district, Madhesh Province, Nepal. The city is a hub for religious and cultural tourism. A headquarter of Dhanusha district, Janakpur is also the capital for Madhesh Province.
Kantipur is a Nepali language daily newspaper, published from Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Nepalgunj, and Bharatpur of Nepal simultaneously. It was founded by Shyam Goenka. Kantipur's publishers report that the circulation of this newspaper is just above 453,000 copies per day. It is regarded as the most widely read newspaper in Nepal; according to an audience survey in 2016, over half of those who read newspapers in Nepal were readers of Kantipur, considerably more than any other newspapers. The newspaper is also a source of information of homeland for Nepali diaspora.
Alok Mehta is an Indian journalist, TV broadcaster and writer. In 2009, he received the civilian honour of Padma Shri from the Government of India. Mehta's work has focused on issues of social welfare, including education for minorities and healthcare facilities.
Harindra J Dave was a Gujarati poet, journalist, playwright and novelist of the post-independence Gujarati literature.
Uday Prakash is a Hindi poet, scholar, journalist, translator and short story writer from India. He has worked as administrator, editor, researcher, and TV director. He writes for major dailies and periodicals as a freelancer. He has also received several awards for his collection of short stories and poems. With Mohan Das he received Sahitya Academi Awards in 2011. He is the first author to return his Sahitya Akademi award on Sep 3, 2015 against the killing of M. M. Kalburgi that initiated a storm of national protests by writers, artists,scholars and intellectuals. .
Ravindra Prabhat is a Hindi-language novelist, journalist, poet, and short story writer from India.
Manglesh Dabral was an Indian Hindi poet and journalist. He was associated with Hindi-language newspapers including Jansatta, Hindi Patriot, and Purvagrah. Some of his popular works include Pahar Par Lalten, Ghar Ka Rasta, and Kavi Ka Akelapan. He was a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2000 for his anthology Ham Jo Dekhte Hain.
Dr. Harikrishna Prasad Gupta Agrahari is a Hindi and Nepali language poet in the modern generation of Hindi poetry. He is known for his contribution in Nepali as well as Hindi literature. He completed Bachelor of Science and received a doctorate of philosophy degree from India and Hungary. His research letter was rewarded by Budapest University, Hungary. Gupta has published almost the two dozen of his books in various genres.
Nohor Ram Gupta, professionally known as Bhawani Bhikshu was a Nepali writer, poet, literary journalist, academic and novelist. He has written multiple novels and short stories. Aagat, a novel published in 1975 is one of his best known books.
Jaya Prithvi Bahadur Singh, was a humanist, peace advocate, writer and social activist from Nepal. He devoted his life to social welfare and world peace. He is known mainly for humanitarianism, peace advocacy and human rights advocacy for education. He also contributed to the development of education, literature, journalism and health.
Scroll.in, simply referred to as Scroll, is an Indian digital news publication now owned by SCSN Pvt Ltd. It publishes content in English language and used to have a Hindi newsfeed as well. Founded in 2014, the website and its journalists have won several national and international awards including four Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards and the CPJ International Press Freedom Awards.
Janak Prasad Humagain (1937-2006) was a social activist and children's poet of Nepal.
