The Six Days of Montreal was a six-day track cycling race held annually in the Montreal Forum, Canada, from 1929 to 1942 and from 1963 to 1980. [1]

Contents

The 1976 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXI Olympiad and commonly known as Montreal 1976, were an international multi-sport event held from July 17 to August 1, 1976, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Montreal was awarded the rights to the 1976 Games at the 69th IOC Session in Amsterdam on May 12, 1970, over the bids of Moscow and Los Angeles. Michel Vaarten is a retired track cyclist and road bicycle racer from Belgium. He represented Belgium at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where he won silver medal in the 1.000m time trial behind East Germany's Klaus-Jürgen Grünke. Vaarten was a professional from 1979 to 1992. He won 12 national titles, one European title and one world title, mainly in track cycling. Vaarten is currently piloting a Derny bike in many Six Day Cycling events around Europe.

Gerard Debaets was a Belgian racing cyclist. He won the Tour of Flanders in 1924 and 1927 and the Belgian national road race title in 1925. He also specialized in track cycling, winning a total of 18 six-day events, including six times the most prestigious Six Days of New York. Debaets was a resident of Fair Lawn and North Haledon, New Jersey, where he died in 1959 of a heart attack.

Australian rider Michael Matthews of Team Sunweb won the race for the second year in a row and successfully defended his title.

It was the 10th edition of Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal and the 36th event of the 2019 UCI World Tour. 2016 winner Greg van Avermaet won the race for the second time in a reduced bunch sprint.
