Size 14 is the first and only studio album by the American rock band of the same name. It was released in 1997 by Volcano Entertainment, with all songs being produced by Mike Clink. [3]
Size 14 formed in 1995 in Hollywood, California, and started recording their debut album after signing with Volcano Entertainment in February 1997. [2] The performance that helped them get signed occurred during January 1997, at a gig for record executives in New York City. Vocalist Linus of Hollywood hastily scribbled what would become the lyrics to the song "Shane" on a vomit bag during the flight from California to New York. After a quick tutorial at soundcheck, the band performed the song that night in New York, unfazed by the gig's high-pressure stakes. [4]
The album spawned a single and music video for the track "Claire Danes Poster". [5] The song lyrically revolves around a lonely male who regularly masturbates to a poster of the American actress Claire Danes. [6] [7] Danes had only recently turned 18 years old when the album was released. Regarding this song and the band's humorous lyrical themes, Linus of Hollywood said in October 1997, "I think we’re a little different and a little above being considered a novelty act. We're more than just funny; we're honest, rather than pulling things out of the air and trying to make people laugh. It's also very melodic." [8] The closing track "Jimmy Whalen" was an actual answering machine message from Linus’ friend. He said, "It's totally for real. I love to listen to my answering machine, because he’s just too damn funny. I thought that one would fit in with the rest of the record, mentioning all the elements of Hollywood, so it was perfect." For the album, Size 14 collaborated with Daryl Dragon of the Captain & Tennille, with Dragon performing his Moog synthesizer on five songs. Linus of Hollywood said in October 1997, "he owns the studio where we recorded this and he came in to help set some keyboards. We started playing something and said, 'Why don’t you play this part?' And he said okay. We didn’t have the vocals down yet, so I don’t think he really knew what we were singing about." Linus of Hollywood added that "he was on the Mark & Brian Show the other day, and I called in and said, 'I can’t believe you played on a song called ‘I Touched Her Ass.' He didn’t know what he was doing, but he was pretty cool." [8]
Following the release of the album, the band went on a successful tour of the United States, [9] and followed this up with a U.S. West coast tour in late 1997. [5] The band's label went out of business shortly afterwards and they broke up in early 1998.
In 2000, "Superbabe 2000" appeared in the film 100 Girls , with "Claire Danes Poster" also appearing in Dude, Where's My Car? that same year. In Dude, Where's My Car?, the song is played during a scene at a strip club. [10] The following year, "Let's Rob a Bank" appeared in the closing credits of Sugar & Spice , a film which revolved around a group of teenage girls robbing a bank. In 2002, "I Touched Her Ass" also appeared in the film 100 Women (also known as Girl Fever).

The album received minor airplay in the United States during 1997, and it was also released in Japan and the Philippines, with the album gaining popularity in the latter country. [12] [13] In a November 2001 review, Chris Gorman of PunkNews.org labelled it "one of the most under-appreciated albums of 1997", adding "In the year of ska-pop, Size 14 put out 14 tracks of pure power-pop bliss." [11] In her 2000 book Claire Danes, author Jennifer Ambrose described "Claire Danes Poster" as a "dubious tribute" to the actress. [6]

S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is the second studio album by American rock band Incubus. It was released on September 9, 1997, by Epic and Immortal Records. The album was certified gold by the RIAA, and is the second and final release to feature Gavin Koppel, who first appeared on the 1997 Enjoy Incubus EP. It has been occasionally considered the band's proper debut album, due to the nature of their independent release Fungus Amongus.

Alive or Just Breathing was Killswitch Engage's first album on Roadrunner and was recorded from October 2001 to February 2002. Archers of Loaf is an American indie rock band originally formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 1991. The group toured extensively and released four studio albums, one compilation, numerous singles and EPs, and a live album which was released after the band broke up in 1998. In 2011 the band began a reunion tour that coincided with the reissue of four of its albums by Merge Records. In July 2022, the band announced the release of their first album in nearly 25 years, Reason in Decline, released also via Merge Records in October of the same year.
Demons & Wizards was a power metal band conceived as a side-project by Blind Guardian vocalist Hansi Kürsch and Jon Schaffer, the guitarist for Iced Earth. Schaffer wrote the music and Kürsch wrote the lyrics. The band's line-up during the recording of their first album in 1999 featured Mark Prator, who was the drummer on a few Iced Earth albums, and Jim Morris, who has engineered for Iced Earth before, on lead guitar. The personnel for the second album, released in 2005, included Morris on lead guitar and Bobby Jarzombek on drums. The band released a third studio album, III, in 2020, and disbanded in early 2021 following Schaffer's involvement in the 2021 United States Capitol riot.
Rich Kids on LSD (RKL) is a Californian hardcore punk band formed in 1982 in Montecito, California, a suburb of Santa Barbara. They were associated with the "Nardcore" scene that evolved out of nearby Oxnard. Their music expanded over the years from West Coast hardcore to a mix of hardcore with rock and metal elements. This style, along with touring, made them very popular on the European scene, especially among skaters in the 1980s and 1990s. Guitarist Chris Rest was the band's only consistent member.
We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes is the second studio album by American rock band Death Cab for Cutie. It was released on March 21, 2000, through Barsuk Records. The band, which originally included singer-songwriter Ben Gibbard, guitarist/producer Chris Walla, bassist Nick Harmer, and drummer Nathan Good, formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. Their debut studio album, Something About Airplanes, was released in 1998 through Barsuk, after which Good exited the band. The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum is the fifth studio album by American rock band L7, released on February 25, 1997, by Slash Records in collaboration with Reprise Records. It was recorded at Conway Recording Studios in Hollywood and Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California. The band recorded most of the album as a trio formed by founding members Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner, and longtime drummer Demetra Plakas, following the departure of bassist Jennifer Finch. The album marks a departure from the tough rock style of its predecessors to a slower and more adventurous style.

No Motiv is a punk rock band from Oxnard, California. The most recent version of the line up as of their 2019 performances includes Jeremy Palaszewski on lead vocals/guitar, Max McDonald on guitar/vocals, Roger Camero on bass/vocals, and Pat Pedraza on drums. For the recording of the LOLA EP, Daylight Breaking, and Winterlong, Roger Camero moved from bass to drums after drummer Pat Pedraza left the band to join alternative rock band From Satellite. The group has not released a full album since Winterlong in 2011, though they did release a remastered edition of And the Sadness Prevails... and a 2-track EP in 2019. Throughout the band's many years of activity and lineup changes, they have also formed several notable side projects. The group is part of the second generation of Nardcore.
Lunch. Drunk. Love is the ninth studio album by American rock band Bowling for Soup, released on September 10, 2013, through Brando Records and Que-so. The album was completely fan-funded, as well as being released on the band's own record label like their previous album. The band has released music videos for the songs "Real", "Right About Now", "Envy" and "Circle". "Circle" is also the first single off this record. The album charted at number 142 on the Billboard 200.
