Smokefree RockQuest 2005 is a compilation album featuring the finalists from the 2005 high school "battle of the bands" Rockquest held annually in New Zealand. This event was held in the Wellington Town Hall on Saturday 3 September 2005. [1]

The judges of this year's event were Anika Moa, Willy McAlistair from The Edge, Tania Deans from NZ on Air, Matt Headland from Warner Music and music producer Malcolm Welsford.

The Electric Confectionaires won the 2005 Smokefreerockquest. Its members from Auckland's Takapuna Grammar were Haddon Smith (keyboard), Jaisi Sheehan (lead guitar and vocals), Rob Fenton (drums) and Calum Gunn (bass guitarist). At the time of the event they had been together only about three months.

Their prizes included:

Second place went to another North Shore band, Midnight Youth from Rangitoto College in Mairangi Bay, who received the Rockquest Promotions Best Song Award, worth $500.

Third place was The Legions of Sound from Wanganui High School.

Moa competed at the Rockquest songwriting contest in 1998, which led to a recording contract. She is the subject of two documentaries by film-maker Justin Pemberton: 3 Chords and the Truth: the Anika Moa Story (2003), detailing her signing to a record label and the release of Thinking Room, and In Bed with Anika Moa (2010) on her later career.

Smokefreerockquest (SFRQ) is an annual music competition for intermediate and high school bands throughout New Zealand.

The Electric Confectionaires were a four-piece musical group from Auckland, New Zealand. Their music is a diverse fusion of styles ranging from rock to garage, blues, surf and jazz. The band formed in 2005 at Takapuna Grammar School where original members Jaisi Sheehan, Haddon Smith, Rob Fenton, Calum Gunn and Toby McLeanan shared a music class. The group gained nationwide recognition when they won the 2005 Smokefree Rockquest.

Spacifix is a New Zealand funk/soul/R&B and reggae boy group from West Auckland, New Zealand. They formed in April 2003 with the view of entering the Smokefree Pacifica Beats national competition. Aged between 13 and 18 years they won the competition first time up. Until April 2005, the band played a number of festivals and concerts and increased their fan base in West Auckland.

Midnight Youth were a New Zealand rock band formed in 2006. Their debut album, The Brave Don't Run, was released in 2009 in New Zealand and Australia. The band subsequently toured and played festivals across Australasia, the United States and Asia. Their second and last studio album, World Comes Calling, was released in October 2011. They played their last show on 2 March 2013.

The 2009 New Zealand Music Awards was the 44th holding of the annual ceremony featuring awards for musical artists based in or originating from New Zealand. Finalists for the three technical awards were announced on 6 August 2009, with winners announced on 2 September at the Langham Hotel. Finalists for 14 'non-technical' categories were also revealed the same night. Five 'non-technical' awards were presented without a group of finalists being selected. The awards ceremony took place on 8 October 2009 at Vector Arena, Auckland. Broadcast live on television by C4, the ceremony was hosted by comedian Dai Henwood.
