Sofía Montserrat Aragón Torres (born 13 February 1994) is a Mexican beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Mexicana Universal 2019. She represented Mexico at the Miss Universe 2019 competition, where she finished as second runner-up.

Personal life

Aragón was born on 13 February 1994 in Guadalajara, Jalisco. [1] [2]

Aragón has said she contemplated suicide, [3] and has become an advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention, working with the organization Sonrisas Reales as a public speaker and writer. [4]

Pageantry

In 2019 she competed for the title of Mexicana Universal Jalisco, aiming to represent her state at Mexicana Universal 2019. She was not selected and Dorothy Sutherland became the Mexican representative instead. After Sutherland came in breach of her contract for not appearing at required events, she was replaced by Aragón as Mexicana Universal Jalisco 2018. [5] [4]

Days after her appointment, Aragón competed in the Mexicana Universal 2019 competition in Mexico City. She was selected as one of the top twenty finalists following the first round on 16 June, and entered the top ten prior to the final held on 23 June. [3] During the 23 June airing, Aragón was crowned Mexicana Universal by outgoing titleholder Andrea Toscano, besting first runner-up Claudia Lozano Domínguez of Nuevo León. She represented Mexico at Miss Universe 2019, where she placed as the second runner-up, the highest placement for Mexico since Ximena Navarrete, who won Miss Universe 2010. [6] [7]

Nuestra Belleza México 2011, the 18th annual Nuestra Belleza México beauty pageant, was held at the Centro Internacional de Convenciones in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico on August 20, 2011. Thirty-four contestants from the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, which was won by Karina González from Aguascalientes who later competed in Miss Universe 2012 in the United States, where she was a Semifinalist in the Top 10. Laura Karina González Muñoz is a Mexican TV host, model, and beauty pageant titleholder who won Nuestra Belleza México 2011. she represented Mexico at Miss Universe 2012 in Las Vegas and placed in the Top 10.

Carmen Isabel Jaramillo Velarde is a Panamanian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned as Señorita Panamá 2020 and Miss Earth Panamá 2015. She represented Panama at Miss Earth 2015 but unplaced. She also represented her country at Miss Universe 2020 held on 16 May 2021.

Miss World Mexico 2016, now referred to as Miss Mexico 2016, is the very first edition of a new pageant organization formed by Hugo Castellanos after Lupita Jones, president of Nuestra Belleza México, lost the franchise with Miss World. The pageant held at Teatro Morelos of Morelia, Michoacán on 14 October 2016. 31 contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title. Two winners were crowned at the end of the event: Ana Girault of Ciudad de México as Miss World Mexico 2016/Miss Mexico 2016, and Andrea Meza of Chihuahua as Miss World Mexico 2017/Miss Mexico 2017. Andrea Isabel Toscano Ramírez is a Mexican beauty pageant titleholder who won Mexicana Universal 2018 on June 3, 2018. She represented Mexico at Miss Universe 2018, but was unplaced. Toscano represented Mexico at Miss International 2019 and was first runner-up.

Mexicana Universal 2019 was the second edition of the Mexicana Universal beauty pageant, formerly called Nuestra Belleza Mexico until 2017. Andrea Toscano of Colima crowned her successor Sofía Aragón of Jalisco at the end of the event. Later, in November 2020, Claudia Lozano of Nuevo León, replaced her as 1st Runner Up and take her place.

Mexicana Universal 2020 was the 3rd edition of the Mexicana Universal beauty pageant held on November 29, 2020. 30 candidates from all over Mexico competed for the national title. Claudia Lozano of Nuevo León crowned Andrea Meza of Chihuahua at the end event. Meza represented Mexico at the Miss Universe 2020 pageant which she won to become the third Mexican Miss Universe.

Yuridia del Carmen Durán Peña is a Mexican model and beauty pageant titleholder who participated in Mexicana Universal 2019 on June 23, 2019, where she won the title of Mexicana Universal Internacional 2020. She represented Mexico in Miss International 2022 pageant held in Tokyo, Japan.

Daniela Elsa Nicolás Gómez is a Chilean actress, model, TV host and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe Chile 2020. She represented Chile at Miss Universe 2020. Outside of pageantry, Nicolás has appeared as an actress on Chilean television series such as Mamá Mechona (2013–14), Veinteañero a los 40 (2016), and Wena profe (2017).

Mexicana Universal 2022 was the 4th edition of the Mexicana Universal beauty pageant. Débora Hallal of Sinaloa crowned Irma Miranda of Sonora as her successor at the end of the event, and will represent Mexico at the upcoming Miss Universe 2022. The other winners include Itzia García of Colima as Mexicana International 2023, Diana Robles of Guanajuato as Mexicana Hispanoamericana 2022, and Verónica Gamboa of Nayarit as Mexicana Latinoamericana 2023.

Brenda Andrea Smith Lezama is a Panamanian-American actress, journalism, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Señorita Panamá 2021. She represented Panama at the Miss Universe 2021 pageant in Eilat, Israel.

Irma Cristina Miranda Valenzuela is a Mexican model, TV host and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Mexicana Universal 2022 at the pageant on May 21, 2022. As Mexicana Universal, Miranda represented Mexico at the Miss Universe 2022 competition.
