Solveig Vitanza (born 10 July 1982) is a Norwegian research advisor and politician for the Labour Party.
Vitanza was elected deputy representative to the Storting from the constituency of Østfold for the period 2021–2025, for the Labour Party. [1] She replaced Jon-Ivar Nygård in the Storting from 2021 while Nygård is government minister. [2] [3] In the Storting, she is a member of the Standing Committee on Business and Industry since 2021. [1]
Vitanza hails from Halden, and has been member of the municipal council of Halden since 2019. She is educated from the University of Oslo, and has worked as research advisor at the Østfold University College. [2]
Halden, between 1665 and 1928 known as Fredrikshald, is both a town and a municipality in Viken county, Norway. The municipality borders Sarpsborg to the northwest, Rakkestad to the north and Aremark to the east, as well as the Swedish municipalities Strömstad, Tanum and Dals-Ed respectively to the southwest, south and southeast.

Olsen was nominated as the Labour Party's fourth candidate for Østfold at the 2009 Norwegian parliamentary election, and won a seat after a strong performance in that county. Viken is a county under disestablishment in Eastern Norway that was established on 1 January 2020 by the merger of Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold with the addition of three other municipalities. Viken was controversial from the onset, with an approval rating of about 20% in the region, and the merger was resisted by all the three counties. Viken has been compared to gerrymandering. The county executive of Viken determined in 2019, before the merger had taken effect, that the county's disestablishment is its main political goal, and the formal process to dissolve Viken was initiated by the county executive in right after the 2021 Norwegian parliamentary election in which parties seeking to reverse the merger won a majority. The political platform of the government of Jonas Gahr Støre states that the government will dissolve Viken and re-establish Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold based on a request from the county itself. On 22 February 2022, the regional assembly of Viken approved the formal request to disestablish the county, which will come into effect on 1 January 2024. The existing counties will continue to function with separate county administrations based on their existing infrastructure in anticipation of their formal re-establishment.
Østfold is one of the 19 multi-member constituencies of the Storting, the national legislature of Norway. The constituency was established in 1921 following the introduction of proportional representation for elections to the Storting. It consists of the municipalities of Aremark, Fredrikstad, Halden, Hvaler, Indre Østfold, Marker, Moss, Råde, Rakkestad, Sarpsborg, Skiptvet and Våler in the county of Viken. The constituency currently elects eight of the 169 members of the Storting using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 223,945 registered electors.
