Sonja Louise Barth (21 May 1923 – 10 September 2016, née  Skoklefald) was a Norwegian environmentalist. [1] [2]

During World War II she was active in XU, the secret Norwegian resistance operation whose activities were kept secret until 1988. In 2008 she described her experiences to Lars Otto Wollum, on condition that he publish nothing of them until after her death. [3]

In 2008 she was appointed to the Royal Norwegian Order of Saint Olav. The citation referred to her work in public education and the dissemination of natural and cultural history, and to her work in the Rondane region. [4]

On 14 November 1945 she married Edvard Kaurin Barth (1913–1996), a photographer and zoologist. [2]

Government scholar is a position awarded by the Parliament of Norway upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Research and funded directly over the state budget of Norway. The position can be "for life" or for a limited period of time, although modern appointments usually are "for life." The scholarships are awarded to a select number of persons whose work is deemed important for the society, and who may engage in research, culture or other societal areas. The number of government scholars has gone down in recent years from 48 in 2009, to 15 in 2021.

In 2016 in Norway, the reigning monarch is King Harald V of Norway. The Prime Minister of Norway is Erna Solberg, who has been Prime Minister since October 2013. The president of the Storting is Olemic Thommessen, who has also been in power since October 2013. Norway will be hosting the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer in 2016. Lillehammer was previously the host of the 1994 Winter Olympics. Norway will be hosting local or international music festivals for various genres of music including metal, opera, jazz and Church music.
