The South Vietnam V-League was the top level of football in South Vietnam. It was founded in the 1950s.
AJS, Cảnh Sát, Tổng Tham Mưu and Quan Thuế were the strongest teams of the league. [1]
After national reunification in 1975, Viet Nam Football Championship copied Soviet-model with regional championship and national championship. The North region named as Hồng Hà League, the Central named as Trường Sơn and the South named as Cửu Long. Regional champions joined the national play-off named as National A1 Championship from 1977 to 1979 to find the national champion. Since 1980, National A1 Championship has been hosted as the current model instead of the Soviet ones.
