The Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization [1] (SEAMEO) is an intergovernmental organization of the eleven Southeast Asian countries, which was formed on 30 November 1965 by the Kingdom of Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the then Republic of Vietnam. [2] SEAMEO aims to promote regional cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture. The current SEAMEO Director is Dr. Ethel Agnes Pascua-Valenzuela of the Philippines. [3]
SEAMEO organised the SEAMEO Mathematics Olympiad, a regional competition for young mathematicians. [4]
In 2014 SEAMEO announced a joint program with the German Government called "Fit For School", the first phase running over 3 years will concentrate on basic hygiene of pre—school and primary school children, improving sanitation facilities and bringing hand-washing and tooth brushing into school. The union has a total area of 4,522,518 km2 (1,746,154 sq mi) and an estimated total population of about 668 million.
The Colombo Plan is a regional intergovernmental organization that began operations on 1 July 1951. The organization was conceived at an international conference, The Commonwealth Conference on Foreign Affairs held in Colombo, Ceylon in January 1950, and was attended by the finance ministers of Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ceylon, Pakistan and New Zealand, and the prime ministers of Ceylon and India. Membership has expanded significantly over the years to the current 28 governments.

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), founded in 1959, is an international organization for higher education situated 40km north of Bangkok, Thailand. It specializes in engineering, advanced technologies, sustainable development, and management and planning. Its aim is to "promote technological change and sustainable development" in the Asia-Pacific region, through higher education, research, and outreach.
The Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) was an international organization for collective defense in Southeast Asia created by the Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty, or Manila Pact, signed in September 1954 in Manila, the Philippines. The formal institution of SEATO was established on 19 February 1955 at a meeting of treaty partners in Bangkok, Thailand. The organization's headquarters was also in Bangkok. Eight members joined the organization.
The Asian–African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) is an international governmental organization formed in 1956, initially to serve as an advisory board to member states on matters on international law. It was an outgrowth of the Bandung Conference, held in Indonesia during April, 1955, which led to the establishment of the Asian Legal Consultative Committee (ALCC). In April, 1958, it changed its name to the Asian-African Legal Consultative Committee (AALCC) to reflect the growth of its membership beyond the African side of the United Arab Republic. Since 2001, it has been known by its current name, the AALCO, reflecting the growth of its international status; currently an intergovernmental organization having received a standing United Nations invitation to participate as an observer in the sessions and the work of the General Assembly and maintaining a permanent office at Headquarters.
Southeast Asian studies (SEAS) refers to research and education on the language, culture, and history of the different states and ethnic groups of Southeast Asia. Some institutions refer to this discipline as ASEAN Studies since most of the countries that they study belong to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN. Definitions of what constitutes Southeast Asia differ between scholars, which blurs the boundaries between Southeast Asian studies and other regional studies like Oriental studies and post-colonial studies. Southeast Asian studies incorporates anthropology, religious studies, linguistics, and international relations.
The Regional Centre for Education in Science and Mathematics (RECSAM) is a multinational educational corporation headquartered in Penang, Malaysia. It is one of the founding sister centres of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO), established on 30 November 1965 to promote co-operation in education, science and culture in the Southeast Asian region.

SEARCA or the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture is one of the oldest among 26 specialist institutions of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). Founded on 27 November 1966, SEARCA is mandated to strengthen institutional capacities in agricultural and rural development in Southeast Asia.
MelClaire Sy-Delfin, or better known as Claire Delfin, is a Filipino broadcast journalist from GMA Network, a popular TV network in the Philippines. Delfin serves as correspondent of GMA-7's 24 Oras which provides local news in Tagalog. An alumna of Silliman University where she obtained her B.A. in Mass Communication (1999), Delfin is a recipient of a number of prestigious awards. In 2007 she received the Global Media Award for Excellence in Population Reporting from the Population Institute in Washington D.C. for her story on child sexuality. In 2009, Delfin won two prizes in the annual PopDev awards, and in 2010, she again received the SEAMEO-Australia Press Award from the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) for a story she wrote entitled "Palengskwela: Bringing the school to the market."
RELC Journal is a triannual peer-reviewed academic journal that covers the field of language learning. It was established in 1970 and is currently published by SAGE Publications on behalf of the Regional Language Centre (RELC) of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). The journal's editors-in-chief are Graeme Cane, Alvin Pang, and Marie Alina Yeo.
Arsenio Molina Balisacan is a Filipino economist and academician currently serving as the Secretary of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), the country's premier socioeconomic planning agency at the cabinet-level of government. NEDA is regarded as the primary body responsible for advancing social and economic development for the country, as well as for coordinating national policy planning, implementation, and monitoring. Balisacan first served as the NEDA Secretary back in May 2012 up until January 2016 under the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III. He then served as the Chairperson of the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) from February 1, 2016 to June 30, 2022. Following his term at the PCC, he was once again appointed as NEDA Secretary under the administration of President Ferdinand 'Bong Bong' Marcos Jr. During his first term back in 2012, he concurrently served as NEDA Secretary and as Chairman of the Boards of the Philippine Statistics Authority, Philippine Institute for Development Studies, Philippine Center for Economic Development, and Public-Private Partnership Center.
Asia e University (AeU) is an international university in Subang Jaya, Malaysia that offers on-campus, blended and online learning mode programmes. An institution set in Asia, by Asians, and for Asia – founded by the Asia Cooperation Dialogue foreign ministers. Asia Cooperation Dialogue is represented by the foreign ministers of 34 Asia Pacific countries, and it aims to promote cooperation in areas like education, through projects such as Asia e University at the Islamabad 2005 and Doha 2006 Asia Cooperation Dialogue ministerial meetings.
Joyce C. White is an American archaeologist, an adjunct professor of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania, and executive director of the new Institute for Southeast Asian Archaeology. Her research primarily concerns decades-long multidisciplinary archaeological investigations in Thailand and Laos covering the prehistoric human occupation of the middle reaches of the Mekong River Basin. She is considered the world's leading expert on the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ban Chiang, Thailand, and directs an archaeological fieldwork program in the Luang Prabang Province of Laos. She has become a strong advocate of cultural heritage preservation and has served as an expert witness in an antiquities trafficking case for the U.S. Department of Justice.
SEAMEO SPAFA is the Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts. The centre was established in 1985. The centre is under the aegis of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and is hosted by the Government of Thailand. The main objective of the Centre is to promote professional competence, awareness, and preservation of cultural heritage in the fields of archaeology and fine arts in Southeast Asia.

Tham An Mah, is an archaeological site located in the Luang Prabang Province of Laos. The site was initially excavated in 2010 by a joint team of the Middle Mekong Archaeological Project and the Department of Heritage of Laos. Perhaps most important is the site's status as one of the stone jar burial sites from iron age Laos, the most famous of which is the Plain of Jars. Test excavations in 2010 included two trenches. Finds from trench B included a circular stone disk, possibly made of limestone or a similar material. The initial reports listed the possibility that the disk represented a jar covering or grave marker similar to those found on the Plain of Jars. The B trench also included the remains of four pots, one of which was directly under the discovered disk and accompanied by loose remains. The single datable piece of material that has thus far been recorded was from the lowermost portion of the excavation and gave a date of c. 13,000, which could indicate an earlier site not recorded. The site also included a Buddhist painting on the cave walls that villagers believed was from the 1950s.
The Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University is the only faculty specialising in tropical medicine in Thailand. It operates the Mahidol Bangkok School of Tropical Medicine (Mahidol-BSTM) as the main teaching facility and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases for patient treatment.
Niane Sivongxay is a zoologist and herpetologist from Laos, who is Director of the South East Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Regional Centre for Community Education Development and is Assistant Professor of Biology at the National University of Laos. She specialises in the study of zooplankton, amphibians and reptiles.
