The Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization [1] (SEAMEO) is an intergovernmental organization of the eleven Southeast Asian countries, which was formed on 30 November 1965 by the Kingdom of Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the then Republic of Vietnam. [2] SEAMEO aims to promote regional cooperation in the fields of education, science and culture. The current SEAMEO President is Dr. Ethel Agnes Pascua-Valenzuela of the Philippines. [3]

Events

SEAMEO organised the SEAMEO Mathematics Olympiad, a regional competition for young mathematicians. [7]

Joint programs

In 2014 SEAMEO announced a joint program with the German Government called "Fit For School", the first phase running over 3 years will concentrate on basic hygiene of pre—school and primary school children, improving sanitation facilities and bringing hand-washing and tooth brushing into school. [8]

It stands as one of the largest and most important free trade areas (FTA) in the world, and together with its network of dialogue partners, drove some of the world's largest multilateral forums and blocs, including Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, East Asia Summit and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

The Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) was an international organization for collective defense in Southeast Asia created by the Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty signed in September 1954 in Manila, Philippines. The formal institution of SEATO was established on 19 February 1955 at a meeting of treaty partners in Bangkok, Thailand. The organization's headquarters was also in Bangkok. A total of eight members joined the organization in its lifetime.

"The ASEAN Way" is the official anthem of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The lyrics were written by Payom Valaiphatchra and the music composed by Kittikhun Sodprasert and Sampow Tri-udom. The anthem was the winning entry out of 99 finalists from all ten ASEAN countries in a competition held in 2008 to establish an official anthem.

SEARCA or the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture is one of the oldest among 26 specialist institutions of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). Founded on 27 November 1966, SEARCA is mandated to strengthen institutional capacities in agricultural and rural development in Southeast Asia.

The SEAMEO Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts or SPAFA is a Southeast Asian inter-governmental collaboration centre on cultural heritage research and conservation, part of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). The centre was established in 1985. It is hosted by the Government of Thailand. The main objective of the Centre is to promote professional competence, awareness, and preservation of cultural heritage in the fields of archaeology and fine arts in Southeast Asia.

Evangel Bible College, formerly South Central Bible Institute, is located at 1744 Lakandula Drive, Daraga, Albay, Philippines. This is a Bible college of the Philippines General Council of the Assemblies of God, Valenzuela City. The school is a member of the Asia Pacific Theological Association.

Jonathan E. Malaya is a Filipino writer, author, businessman, and public official who is currently the Assistant Director General of the National Security Council. Prior to joining the NSC, he was undersecretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government. He also served as Assistant Secretary in the Office of the President of the Philippines, and Assistant Secretary for Special Projects and Legislative Liaison in the Department of Education of the Philippines.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly</span> Parliamentary body in southeast Asia

The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) is a regional parliamentary body which acts as a primary point for communication and information sharing between member countries. Its primary objectives are to provide information to Southeast Asian citizens about policies aimed at establishing an ASEAN community by 2025 and to foster mutual understanding and collaboration among these parliaments.

The Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University is the only faculty specialising in tropical medicine in Thailand. It operates the Mahidol Bangkok School of Tropical Medicine (Mahidol-BSTM) as the main teaching facility and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases for patient treatment.
