Southern Newspapers Inc. (SNI) is a publishing holding company headquartered in Houston, Texas. [1] The company was founded as Southern Newspapers, Inc., of Tennessee in 1967 by Carmage Walls. Its flagship paper, the Galveston County Daily News is the oldest newspaper in Texas, founded in 1842. [2]

Gregorio "Gregory" Luna (17 November 1932 – 6 November 1999) was a San Antonio, Texas politician who served as a Democrat in both the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate for the 14 years from 1985 to 1999. While in the legislature, Luna was considered to be a "champion of education". He was also one of the founders of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and served four terms as board chair.

The Times-Journal newspaper appears three times a week is published in Fort Payne, Alabama and serves the DeKalb County, Alabama region. The Times-Journal was a Southern Newspapers publication for 60 years before selling to Patrick Graham in 2019, along with sister papers in Albertville and Scottsboro. The Times-Journal resulted from the merger in 1959 of the Fort Payne Journal, first published in 1878, and the Times-New Era. The latter newspaper was the product of the 1951 merger of The DeKalb Times and The Collinsville New Era.

Thomas Shirley Simons, Sr., commonly known as Shirley Simons was a prominent architect of Tyler, Texas. He was born in 1897 at Taylor, Texas, and raised in Fort Worth, Texas.
