Early life

Kappanna started stage work during his days as a student at The National College, Basavanagudi, under the tutelage of Dr. H. Narasimhaiah and make-up artist Nani. Since then, he has worked in stage lighting, stage design, play production, and presentation of folk and classical forms.

Career

Between 1967 and 1970, Kappanna engaged in backstage work, as well as theater lighting for English-language productions. He has designed lighting for many dancers of the country, and has worked in a number of television genres.

Kappanna has also led and choreographed teams from Karnataka in the Indian Republic Day Parade between 1982 and 1998. Presently, Kappanna is the Artistic Director of the Prasidda Foundation, dedicated to the performing arts, and of Bhramari, a creative dance troupe. Kappanna has also served as Chairman of the Karnataka Nataka Akademy. [1] [2]

Yakshagana Folk art form in India

According to NCERT Yakshagana is a traditional Folk art, developed in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shimoga and western parts of Chikmagalur districts, in the state of Karnataka and in Kasaragod district in Kerala that combines dance, music, dialogue, costume, make-up, and stage techniques with a unique style and form. Gubbi Veeranna Indian theatre personality, filmmaker

Gubbi Veeranna was an Indian theatre director and artist and a recipient of the Padmashree conferred by the President of India. He was one of the pioneers and most prolific contributors to Kannada theatre. He established the drama company, Gubbi Sree Channabasaveshwara Nataka Company, which played a crucial role in promoting the Kannada theatre field. He has been conferred the title Nataka Ratna meaning "A Precious Jewel" in the theatre world.

Bidriware Indian metal handicraft

Bidri "bidriware" originates from the township of Bidar, which is still the chief centre for the manufacture of the unique metalware. Due to its striking inlay artwork, bidriware is an important export handicraft of India and is prized as a symbol of wealth. The metal uware is a metal handicraft from Bidar. Nandini Ramanna, better known by her stage name Bhavana Ramanna, is an Indian film actress who works predominantly in the Kannada film industry. A Bharatanatyam dancer, she has received three Karnataka State Film Awards and acted in Shanti, a film that entered the Guinness Book of Records. Bhavana Ramanna is the director of HomeTown Productions, a production house that conducts dance and music shows. In the run-up to the 2014 general elections, Bhavana Ramanna was named one of the star campaigners for the Congress party in Karnataka, a role she had performed in the 2013 assembly elections in the state. Bhavana Ramanna was reported as being among the contenders for a nomination to the upper house of the Karnataka legislature as an MLC.

Tapas Sen was a noted Indian stage lighting designer, who was an important figure in 20th-century Indian theatre. He started working with Bengali theatre movement in Kolkata in the late 1940s, along with noted directors, Utpal Dutt and Shambhu Mitra. Later he became a founding member of the Indian People's Theatre Association's (IPTA), Delhi chapter, and worked closely with Hindi theatre. Parshwanath Upadhye

Parshwanath Upadhye is an Indian classical dancer, choreographer and teacher. He is trained in the traditional Mysore style of Bharatanatyam.

Gopal Prasad Dubey is an Indian classical dancer, known for his expertise in the Indian classical dance form of Chhau. He is considered by many as the leading exponent of the Seraikella variant of the art form.
