Sri Krishna Leelalu (English: Krishna's Mischiefs) is a 1935 Telugu-language mythological film directed by Chitrapu Narasimha Rao and produced by Pinapala Venkata Dasu (P. V. Doss) under the banner of Vel Pictures. [1] The film playfully depicts the antics of the child Krishna (Saluri Rajeswara Rao), from his birth to his victory over the evil Kamsa (Vemuri Gaggayya). It marks the film debut of future composer Rajeswara Rao and is one of Gaggayya’s best-known films. [2]
The cast also includes Ramathilakam, Sriranjani Sr., and Parupalli Subba Rao in pivotal roles. Notable contributions to the screenplay and dialogues came from Bukkapatnam Raghavacharyulu (B. T. Raghavachari) and Pingali Nagendra Rao, respectively, while Gali Penchala Narasimha Rao composed the music. [2] The film was a commercial success. [3]
Tormented by the evil deeds of Kamsa and his followers, Bhudevi, Indra, and other deities offer prayers to Lord Vishnu at Brahma's behest. Vishnu assures them he will be born as Devaki's son to end their suffering. Meanwhile, a prophecy warns Kamsa that he will die at the hands of Devaki's eighth child. Alarmed, Kamsa imprisons Devaki and her husband Vasudeva, vowing to kill each of their children at birth. Despite his intentions, Vishnu himself appears to Devaki and Vasudeva, promising to be born as their child and informing them that Yogamaya, their saviour, is already born in Nanda’s house.
At midnight, Vasudeva secretly carries the newborn Krishna across the Yamuna River to Nanda's house, exchanging him for Yogamaya and returning to the prison. Kamsa attempts to kill the child but is warned by Yogamaya that Krishna, destined to kill him, is already born.
In Repalle, Krishna grows up causing mischief among the Gopikas, demonstrating miraculous feats and divine powers. He kills demons sent by Kamsa, including Putana, Chakrasura, and Trunavarta, and subdues the serpent Kaliya with forgiveness. Later, Kamsa summons Krishna and his brother Balarama to his court under the pretense of a ritual. Along their journey, the brothers kill the royal washerman, free Kubja from a curse, and destroy Kamsa's weapon storehouse. In the court, Krishna and Balarama defeat Kamsa's champions, Chanura and Mushtika, before finally confronting Kamsa himself. Krishna defeats and kills Kamsa, thus ending his tyranny.

Saluri Rajeswara Rao, cast as the young Krishna, was already recognized as a child prodigy. From the age of four, he performed on stage, later training in tabla and harmonium under Dwaram Vekataswamy Naidu. In 1935, at age 13, Rajeswara Rao was chosen by Vel Pictures to portray Krishna in Sri Krishna Leelalu, which was primarily filmed in Calcutta. He would later star in other mythological films, such as Keechaka Vadha and Uttara Gograhanam, with his father accompanying him to play mrudangam for these productions.

Balarama is a Hindu god, and the elder brother of Krishna. He is particularly significant in the Jagannath tradition, as one of the triad deities. He is also known as Haladhara, Halayudha, Baladeva, Balabhadra, and Sankarshana.
Devaki is a character in Hindu literature, most noted for being the mother of the god Krishna. She is one of the seven daughters of Devapa or Devaka, a king of the Yadu dynasty, and has four brothers. She is one of the wives of Vasudeva. Her cousin is Kamsa, the king of Mathura, a cruel tyrant who had been told by Narada that he had been an asura killed by Vishnu in his previous life (Kalanemi), exacerbating his wickedness. According to popular tradition, Devaki is considered to be an incarnation of Aditi, a mother goddess who was the daughter of Daksha and the wife of Kashyapa.
Yashoda is the foster-mother of Krishna and the wife of Nanda. She is described in the Puranic texts of Hinduism as the wife of Nanda, the chieftain of Gokulam, and the sister of Rohini. According to the Bhagavata Purana, Krishna was born to Devaki, but Krishna's father, Vasudeva, brought the newborn Krishna to his cousin Nanda, and his wife, Yashoda, in Gokulam. This was for his upbringing, as well as to protect Krishna from Devaki's brother, Kamsa, the tyrannical king of Mathura.
Kamsa was the tyrant ruler of the Vrishni kingdom, with its capital at Mathura. He is variously described in Hindu literature as either a human or an asura; The Puranas describe him as an asura, while the Harivamśa describes him as an asura reborn in the body of a man. His royal house was called Bhoja; thus, another of his names was Bhojapati. He was the cousin of Devaki, the mother of the deity Krishna; Krishna ultimately fulfilled a prophecy by slaying Kamsa.
Krishnavatara is a series of seven novels written by K.M. Munshi. A projected eighth novel was not completed. The series is based on life of Lord Krishna and the epic Mahabharata series.
Saluri Rajeswara Rao was an Indian composer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and music producer, known for his work in Telugu cinema. Rajeswara Rao is noted for integrating Indian classical music into Telugu cinema for over five decades. His innovative compositions and mastery of classical and folk music earned him widespread recognition.
Krishna ...Aayo Natkhat Nandlal is a 2006 Indian animated feature faith film based upon Lord Vishnu's eighth incarnation Krishna's epic childhood tales from his birth to him slaying his evil uncle Kans. It is the first Hindi computer-animated film based on Hindu faith of Krishna, one of the most reverred diety in Hinduism and was theatrically released in India on 29 September 2006.
Sri Krishnavataram is a 1967 Telugu-language Hindu mythological film directed by Kamalakara Kameswara Rao. It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Devika and Kanchana, with music composed by T. V. Raju. The film was produced by A. Pundarikakshayya under the Taraka Rama Pictures. The film is based on the Hindu epics Mahabharata and Bhagavata Purana covering major life events of Lord Krishna.
Vemuri Gaggayya (1895–1955) was an Indian actor and singer known for his works in Telugu cinema, and Telugu theatre.
Yasodha Krishna is a 1975 Indian Telugu-language film directed by C. S. Rao. The film features Baby Sridevi and Baby Rohini portraying young Lord Krishna, with the latter making her on-screen debut as a child artiste at the age of five. The film also stars Jamuna as Yasodha and S. V. Ranga Rao as Kamsa. Yasodha Krishna was later dubbed into Kannada under the same title. Notably, this film marked the final appearance of S. V. Ranga Rao, as it was released a year after his death, following the earlier release of his last Tamil film Sivakamiyin Selvan (1974).

Chitrapu Narayana Rao was an Indian film director and producer known for his works in Telugu and Tamil cinema. He received a Certificate of Merit for the Third Best Tamil Film for Edhir Paradhathu (1958) and Annaiyin Aanai (1962). He also won the Nandi Award for the 1967 Telugu film Bhakta Prahlada.

The songs Cheliya Kanarava by Ghantasala and Evarine Nenevarine by S. Varalakshmi were the melodies which attracted many those days.

Bakasura or Vakasura is the crane asura killed by the Hindu god Krishna. He is the companion of King Kamsa and the brother of Putana and Aghasura. He was sent by him in the form of a giant crane to kill Krishna so that the boy would not be able to kill the king, which was claimed as a prophecy by an unknown voice and the Devi Yogamaya. Bakasura was then killed by Krishna when the boy pushed his beak until it snapped.
According to Hindu scriptures such as the Mahabharata, Harivamsa, and the Krishna Charitas, the birth of Krishna took place in Mathura, in present-day Uttar Pradesh, on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha of the Bhadrapada month of the Hindu calendar, to Vasudeva Anakdundubhi, and his wife Devaki. According to Hindu mythology, Krishna was the eighth of the ten avatars of Vishnu, born in the Dvapara Yuga, the third age of the present Hindu cosmology. Sita Kalyanam is a 1934 Telugu-language Hindu mythological film directed by Chitrapu Narasimha Rao and produced by Pinapala Venkata Dasu under the banner of Vel Pictures. The film stars Bezawada Rajaratnam, Master Kalyani, and Madhavapeddi Venkatramayya, with music composed by Gali Penchala Narasimha Rao. It is considered the first Telugu talkie to feature outdoor sequences and the first Telugu talkie produced in Madras. Additionally, it was the second Telugu talkie film produced by a Telugu person. Released on October 6, 1934, Sita Kalyanam was a commercial success.
