The Sri Lankan cricket team toured to England in the 1975 English domestic cricket season.
During the tour, Sri Lanka made its One Day International debut in the 1975 Cricket World Cup, the inaugural tournament, playing (and losing) ODIs against West Indies on 7 June,, Australia on 11 June, and Pakistan on 14 June.
Sri Lanka also played a three-day game against the East African cricket team in Taunton, from 23 June to 25 June. Captained by Anura Tennekoon, the Sri Lankans batted first, scoring 204. East Africa scored 208 in reply, to take a narrow first-innings lead. Sri Lanka scored 332-5 declared in their second innings, including a century (144) for Duleep Mendis, setting East Africa a target of 329. East Africa were bowled out for 213, with Michael Tissera taking 5-95, and Sri Lanka won by 115 runs.
The 1975 Cricket World Cup was the inaugural Cricket World Cup, and the first major tournament in the history of One Day International (ODI) cricket. Organised by the International Cricket Conference (ICC), it took place in England between 7 June and 21 June 1975.
Deshabandu Sanath Teran Jayasuriya is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and a former captain of the Sri Lankan national team. Considered as one of the greatest attacking batsmen of his era, Jayasuriya is well known for his powerful striking and match-winning all-round performances in ODI cricket. Jayasuriya is credited for having revolutionized one-day international cricket with his explosive batting with Romesh Kaluwitharana in the mid 1990s, which initiated the hard-hitting modern-day batting strategy of all nations. Jayasuriya was an all-rounder, who had an international cricket career that spread over four decades. He is the only player to score over 10,000 runs and capture more than 300 wickets in One Day International cricket, and hence regarded as one of the best all-rounders in the history of limited-overs cricket. He was named the Most Valuable Player of 1996 Cricket World Cup and Wisden Cricketers' Almanack broke an age-old tradition by naming him one of Five Cricketers' of the Year 1997 despite not playing the previous season in England. Jayasuriya was also the captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team from 1999 to 2003.
Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara is a Sri Lankan cricket commentator, cricketer and former player and captain of the Sri Lanka national team. He is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. Sangakkara scored 28,016 runs in international cricket across all formats in a career that spanned 15 years. At retirement, he was the second-highest run-scorer in ODI cricket and sixth-highest run scorer in Test cricket.
Denagamage Praboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene is a Sri Lankan cricket coach and former cricketer. Jayawardene made his Test cricket debut in 1997 and his One Day International (ODI) debut the following season. In 2006 he made the highest ever score by a Sri Lankan in Test cricket, scoring 374 in the second Test of Sri Lanka's home series against South Africa. He has a test cricket average of just under 50 and a One Day average in the 30s. He is the first player in the history of Sri Lankan cricket to score over 10,000 Test runs. He is also the second Sri Lankan player to score more than 10,000 runs in ODIs. Mahela is also the Chairman of Sri Lanka National Sports Council.
Lalith Wasantha Silva Kaluperuma is a former Sri Lankan Test cricketer and ODI cricketer, who played first-class cricket from 1970 to 1983. He played in Sri Lanka's first Test team in 1982.

The Sri Lankan cricket team toured England in the 1998 season. On the tour they played 4 first-class matches, 5 List A matches and a single Test match. They also competed in a tri-series tournament against England and South Africa, entitled the Emirates Triangular Tournament. They won the competition by defeating England in the final, also beating South Africa in the group stage. They won the only Test, with Muttiah Muralitharan taking a career best 16/220 - the 5th best bowling figures in a match in Test cricket history.

In November 2017, he was named the One Day International (ODI) batsman of the year for the 2016–17 season at Sri Lanka Cricket's annual awards.
Dhananjaya Maduranga de Silva, or commonly Dhananjaya de Silva is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer, who plays all forms in international arena and for Tamil Union in domestic cricket. In November 2017, he was named the Test batsman of the year for the 2016–17 season at Sri Lanka Cricket's annual awards.
