The Sri Lankan cricket team toured England from May to July during the 1979 English domestic cricket season. The team spent most of its time in England, but also played in one match in Ireland and one in Scotland.
Sri Lanka, captained by Anura Tennekoon, played 10 matches on the tour, but only won once, against Oxford University Cricket Club in two days. Apart from losses to Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club over 3 days and Leicestershire County Cricket Club in a 55-overs one-day match, all of the other matches were drawn.
Sti Lanka played 3-day matches against 6 county cricket teams - Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, Derbyshire County Cricket Club, Kent County Cricket Club, Worcestershire County Cricket Club, Glamorgan County Cricket Club and Sussex County Cricket Club; Nottinghamshire won by 10 wickets, and all of the other matches were drawn. Sri Lanka also played a 55-over one-day match against Leicestershire County Cricket Club, which Leicestershire won by 4 wickets; a 2-day match against Oxford University, which Sri Lanka won by an innings and 86 runs; and 3-day international matches against Ireland in Eglinton and against Scotland in Glasgow, both drawn.
The National Counties, known as the Minor Counties before 2020, are the cricketing counties of England and Wales that do not have first-class status. The game is administered by the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), which comes under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). There are currently twenty teams in National Counties cricket: nineteen representing historic counties of England, plus the Wales National County Cricket Club.

Paul Andrew Nixon is an English cricket coach and former professional cricketer who played for Leicestershire, England, England A, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and Kent. He is a wicket-keeper and left-handed batsman. Nixon played in twenty international matches for the England cricket team, all within a four-month spell in 2007.
Stuart Christopher John Broad is an English former cricketer who played Test cricket for the England cricket team and was One Day and Twenty20 International captain. Broad was a member of the England team that won the 2010 ICC World Twenty20. His longevity, and highly successful partnership with fellow fast bowler James Anderson cemented him as one of England's greatest ever Test bowlers.
Samit Rohit Patel is an English cricketer. A right-handed batsman and a slow left-arm bowler, he plays first-class cricket for Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Patel made his One Day International debut for England in August 2008, however was later dropped from the side after failing to meet fitness levels. After an absence of 2+1⁄2 years, he returned to the ODI side in 2011 and made his Twenty20 International debut, before becoming the 651st player to represent England at Test cricket by winning his first cap on the tour of Sri Lanka in 2012.

International cricket played in the 2006 cricket season is defined as matches scheduled between May and August 2006 in all cricketing countries, as well as all international matches scheduled for the 2006 English cricket season. Matches between January and April are defined as belonging to the 2005–06 season, while matches between September and December are defined as the 2006–07 season. The main matches in this period were played in England, as this was in the middle of the English cricket season, but the third edition of the ICC Intercontinental Cup is defined as a part of the 2006 season, even though the tournament stretched into February 2007, and three A teams were also scheduled to tour the northwestern part of Australia in June and July 2006.

England came off a winter with more Test losses than wins, for the first time since 2002-03, but still attained their best series result in India since 1985. Mansoor Amjad, born 14 December 1987, is a Pakistani cricketer who plays for the Pakistan national cricket team and Leicestershire County Cricket Club in England. His father, mother, and other family members supported him throughout his career, encouraging him to play cricket. Amjad first played tape-ball cricket in the street as a child, and was known in his hometown as a bat and ball boy. He played cricket at an early age for the Saga sports cricket club, and began playing seriously in 1998–99 when he attended a Habib Bank mobile camp in Lahore. Amjad began as a leg spin bowler, and later developed his batting skills as a right-hand batsman. In 2000, Amjad was selected for the under-15 camp.

The West Indian cricket team toured England in 1980, spending virtually the whole of the 1980 English cricket season in England. West Indies also played two matches in Ireland and two in Scotland.
Harry Frederick Gurney is an English former cricketer who played at international level for the England team. Gurney made his One Day International debut on 9 May 2014 against Scotland. Domestically, he played for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club after leaving Leicestershire County Cricket Club at the end of the 2011 season. He primarily played as a left-arm seamer.
James William Arthur Taylor is an English former cricketer and cricket selector who played for Nottinghamshire and England. A right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm leg break bowler, Taylor made his debut in first-class cricket in 2008 for Leicestershire and made major impressions in his first county seasons. He is noted as being a fine fielder in the covers. He became the youngest Leicestershire one-day centurion and first-class double centurion. In 2009, Taylor also became the youngest player in Leicestershire's history to score 1,000 championship runs in a season. A promising talent in his 34 white-ball appearances for England, Taylor was forced into retirement at just 26 years of age due to a previously undiagnosed heart condition.
Steven Joseph "Steve" O'Shaughnessy is a former English professional cricketer who played for Lancashire and Worcestershire in the 1980s, and then had a substantial career in Minor Counties cricket with Cumberland. Since retiring from playing, he has become an umpire, and was promoted in December 2010 to the first-class panel for the 2011 season.

It began on 2 April with a round of university matches, and continued until the final of the Clydesdale Bank 40 on 17 September. Three major domestic competitions were contested: the 2011 County Championship won by Lancashire, the 2011 Clydesdale Bank 40 won by Surrey and the 2011 Friends Life t20 won by Leicestershire.

Jacob Timothy Ball is an English cricketer. Ball is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm fast-medium pace. He was born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England and educated at the Meden School in Market Warsop. On 14 July 2016 he made his Test debut for England against Pakistan. His uncle, Bruce French, also played Test cricket for England and was chosen to present Ball with his England cap before his Test debut in July 2016.
Ben Matthew Duckett is an English cricketer who plays for Nottinghamshire. He is a left-handed batsman who can play as a wicket-keeper. He made his international debut for England in October 2016.
