The Zimbabwe cricket team are scheduled to tour England in May 2025 to play the England cricket team. [1] The tour will consist of a four-day Test match. [2] It is due to be the first Test match between the two teams since 2003, [3] and only the second four-day Test match played by Zimbabwe. [4] The tour will also mark the first bilateral series between the two sides in any format since 2004. [5] In August 2023, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the schedule for the Test match. [6] The venue was confirmed as Trent Bridge on 22 August 2024. [7]

Cricket is one of the most popular sports in England, and has been played since the 16th century. Marylebone Cricket Club, based at Lord's, developed the modern rules of play and conduct. The Women's Cricket Super League (WCSL), known as the Kia Super League (KSL) for sponsorship reasons, was a semi-professional women's Twenty20 cricket competition in England and Wales operated by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The competition featured six franchise teams, partnered with a variety of county teams and boards and universities, and was envisaged as a means to bridge the gap between amateur domestic cricket and the increasingly professional international game.

The 2019 English cricket season ran between 26 March and 26 September. It was the 120th in which the County Championship has been an official competition and featured first-class, one-day and Twenty20 cricket competitions throughout England and Wales.

The 2020 international cricket season took place from May to September 2020. 15 Test matches, 49 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 40 Twenty20 International (T20Is) were scheduled to be played during this period, as well as 8 Women's One Day Internationals (WODIs) and 9 Women's Twenty20 Internationals (WT20Is). Additionally, a number of other T20I/WT20I matches were also scheduled to be played in minor series involving associate nations. The season started with Australia leading the Test cricket rankings, England leading the ODI rankings and Australia leading the Twenty20 rankings.

The 2021–22 international cricket season took place from September 2021 to April 2022. 29 Tests, 111 One Day Internationals (ODIs), 112 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), 25 Women's One Day Internationals (WODIs), 40 Women's Twenty20 Internationals (WT20Is), and two women's Test matches were scheduled to be played during this period. Additionally, a number of other T20I/WT20I matches were also scheduled to be played in series involving associate nations.

The West Indies cricket team toured England to play three Test matches. The team were originally scheduled to tour the country in May and June 2020. However, the series was initially postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cricket West Indies stated that they would do everything they can to help accommodate the fixtures, including moving the fixtures back or even hosting them in the West Indies. A revised tour schedule, with the first Test starting in July, was proposed at the end of May 2020. The fixtures were confirmed the following month, with the matches all played behind closed doors. The Test series formed part of the inaugural 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship.

The South Africa women's cricket team toured England to play against the England women's cricket team in June and July 2022. Originally, South Africa were scheduled to tour England in September 2020. The tour was scheduled to consist of four Women's One Day Internationals (WODIs) and two Women's Twenty20 Internationals (WT20Is), with all the matches taking place at the County Cricket Ground in Derby. However, in August 2020, the tour was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In February 2022, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a new schedule for the tour, consisting of three WODI matches, three WT20I matches, and a one-off Women's Test match. It was South Africa Women's first Test match since they played India in November 2014. A points-based system was used across all three formats of the tour.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruption to cricket around the world, mirroring its impact across all sports. Around the world and to varying degrees, leagues and competitions have been cancelled or postponed.

The England cricket team toured Bangladesh in March 2023 to play three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The ODI series formed part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. It was the first bilateral T20I series between the two teams, and England's first tour of Bangladesh since 2016.

The 2021 English cricket season began on 4 April and finished on 3 October 2021. It was the 121st season in which the County Championship has been an official competition and featured First-Class, List-A and Twenty20 cricket competitions throughout England and Wales.

The England cricket team toured Pakistan in September and October 2022 to play seven Twenty20 International (T20I) matches as a preparatory series before the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The English team returned to Pakistan in December 2022 to play three Test matches. The Test matches formed part of the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship.
