Srijan Bhattacharya (or Bhattacharyya,born 12 May 1993) is an Indian political leader who served as the West Bengal State Secretary of the Students' Federation of India (SFI). He is also a Member of the West Bengal State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). [1] [2] He was contesting the 2024 Indian General Election as a CPI(M) candidate from the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency,but lost to Saayoni Ghosh of TMC and Dr. Anirban Ganguly of BJP [3]
Srijan Bhattacharya,son of Dr. Arindam Bhattacharya and Lt. Suranjana Bhattacharya,is a leftist political activist coming from Kolkata,West Bengal. He was a student of South Point High School and Nava Nalanda High school. He completed his Bachelor and Masters degrees as a student of History from Jadavpur University (Batch of 2012–2017). [4] Srijan's parents were both leftist student activists,and his grandfather Achintya Bhattacharya was a communist leader of Assam,one of the earliest Indian communists who left the CPI in order to form the CPI(M) during the CPI-CPI(M) split. [5] Srijan got married in November 2020. Besides being a political activist,he has contributed as a songwriter and musician in a musical band called Ebong Koyekjon,who released an album with 9 original compositions in 2014. [6] [7] Apart from this,he has freelanced as a lyricist and composer in quite a few independent musical projects as well. [8] 'পরিত্যক্তক্যারাভ্যানেরগান' (Melodies of a Deserted Caravan),a book of poems and short stories written by Srijan was published by Shalidhan Prakashan in the International Kolkata Book Fair 2021. Srijan joined the SFI in 2007 as a school student,and currently is acting as the State Secretary of SFI West Bengal State Committee (17 December 2017 –present) along with PratikUr Rahaman,the State President of SFI West bengal State Committee. [17] He is also the All India Joint Secretary of the SFI (2nd Novembor,2018–present). [18] He was elected as Asst. Secretary of the SFI Kolkata District Committee in 2015 and in the same year was elected as a member of the SFI West Bengal State Committee. in 2019,he became a member of the CPI(M) West Bengal State Committee. [2] He was elected as the youngest delegate to participate in the 22nd Party Congress of the CPI(M) that was held at Hyderabad on April,2018.
He contested the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Elections 2021 from the high-profile Assembly Constituency of Singur (A.C. 188) as a candidate of the CPI(M) and lost to Becharam Manna of the AITC,ending up as third with 14.3% of the total vote shares. [19] [20] Srijan has been one of the better known young faces of the SFI and the CPI(M) of West Bengal in recent times. [21] [22] [23] [24] During his tenure as a student leader,he has led multiple movements against the TMC government in West Bengal and the BJP Government in Centre. [25] [26] [27] [28]
In 2018,a movement rejecting autocratic student councils and demanding revival of democratically elected student unions across Bengal's higher educational institutions was led by Srijan. [29] [30] [31] [32] In his tenure,SFI gained back student unions in both the prestigioous universities of Jadavpur and Presidency after a decade. [33] [34] His role as a student leader in anti-NRC anti-CAA protests during the early 2020s was crucial in organising students throughout the state. [35]
Throughout the Covid Pandemic and Lockdown,SFI under the leadership of PratikUr and Srijan was vocal on students' concerns like Digital Divide,and carried on a successful movement compelling the West Bengal government to reopen educational institutions in January 2022. [36] [37] [38] [39] [40] [41] He has been an active participant in the huge contingent of young Leftist covid volunteers,more popuparly known as Red Volunteers. [42]
He has been one of the major organisers in building student-youth movements against corruption in college admissions,recruitment scams of TMC Government and murder of student activist Anish Khan. [43] [44] [45] [46] [47] [26] During his term,SFI in West Bengal has carried on massive demonstrations against the National Education Policy 2020,and other education related issues like fee hikes,campus democracy,transport fares etc. He has acted as one of the brains behind formulating an Alternative Education Policy by SFI,as opposed to the NEP 2020. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was an Indian communist politician and a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist),who served as the 7th Chief Minister of West Bengal from 2000 to 2011. In a political career over five decades,he became one of the senior leaders of Communist Party of India (Marxist) during his regime.

Subrata Bhattacharya is an Indian football manager and former professional footballer. He primarily played as a defender for India national team and spent seventeen years playing for Mohun Bagan. He was the stopper back for Mohun Bagan during 1975 IFA Shield final when East Bengal beat Mohun Bagan 5–0,the biggest ever margin in the Kolkata Derby. On 7 June 2013,a 20-year-old college student was abducted,gang-raped and murdered in Kamduni village,16km from Barasat,North 24 Parganas district about 20km from main Kolkata. In January 2016 the accused were sentenced to death and life imprisonment.

Red Volunteers is an Indian left-wing non-profit political,beneficiary and voluntary organization founded by the Democratic Youth Federation of India and the Students Federation of India.
Sramajibi Canteen is a community kitchen chain in India,mainly active in West Bengal,run by Communist Party of India (Marxist),a national political party in India. Sramajibi Canteen has seen a good involvement of youths from SFI,DYFI and from the society. Along with CPI(M) workers,who run it,people from the civil society,film industry,educational institutes etc. have taken part in this. The Jadavpur Sramajibi Canteen is the state's longest-running community kitchen in West Bengal till now. As of July 2021,more than 20 Sramajibi Canteens are functioning in the whole state of West Bengal.
2021 Nabanna Abhijan was a protest march to the West Bengal state secretariat Nabanna,organised by Students Federation of India (SFI),Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI),Left Front and other Left parties and student organisations on 11 February 2021 against the alleged failures of TMC-led Government of West Bengal,which eventually turned into a conflict between the police and protesters. The protest march saw a massive involvement of youths,students and activists from SFI,DYFI and 8 other Left parties along with Indian National Congress and it's unions. Unemployment was one of major issues of this protest.

This is the debut streaming series of director Bhattacharya and producer Ritwick Chakraborty. Media compared Birohi with the popular Hindi streaming series Panchayat. Season 2 of Birohi was released in December 2022.
Shatarup Ghosh is an Indian politician from West Bengal belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM). He had formerly served as the All India Joint Secretary of the Students' Federation of India (SFI),the students wing of CPIM and was member of its central secretariat. Then he became a member of the state committee secretariat of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI),which is the youth wing of CPIM. He has been inducted into the West Bengal State Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the 23rd Party conference of state in March 2022 and currently remains a member of it.
The protest against the death of Anish Khan,also known as the justice for Anish Khan protest,began on 18 February 2022 after the death of All India Students' Federation (AISF) leader Anish Khan. The AISF,Students' Federation of India,All India Students Association and other organizations organised protests,including rallies,human chains and demonstrations. The protests began in Jadavpur and Park Circus,initiated by students at Aliah University,then rapidly spread across the state of West Bengal and throughout India.
Independents' Consolidation (IC) is a student organization based in Presidency University,Kolkata. It was formed in the erstwhile Presidency College and has won all but five student union elections since its formation in 1989. It describes itself as a "non-partisan independent political platform" that is not affiliated to any established political party.
