St. Nelly-Sade, born Nsubuga Nelson, is a Ugandan Lugaflow rapper. [1] [2] He has performed on national and international stages including Bayimba International Festival of the Arts, [3] [4] LaBa! Arts Festival, [5] Uganda Hip Hop Summit, as well as performances in South Sudan, Arusha, Tanzania and in various regions all over east Africa.

Nelly-Sade has contributed to many projects such as The Hip Hop Canvas album 2009 and 2010, Voices Initiative Uganda, WAPI, Open Mic Night Kampala, End of the Weak Uganda, Spoken Truth and Mic Stand Hip Hop night, which he started in 2011. He was Co-coordinator for the End of the Weak International Hip Hop Festival held in Kampala in 2014. [6]

Early life and education

St. Nelly-Sade was born Nsubuga Nelson in 1988 in Kampala, to Lule Edward and Nantongo Jane. He attended Buganda Road Primary School and St. Joseph Primary school Nazigo for his primary education, and Old Kampala Secondary School and Yale High School for his secondary education. He proceeded to "Do it Virtual Institute" for a diploma in project planning and management. [7] [ failed verification ]

Music

Nelly-Sade started rapping in 2007. [2] He formed his first rap group, The Hip Hop Gangstarz with a group of friends in 2004. The group broke up when they failed to find success. Nelly-Sade continued rapping in English but was not well received. In 2008, he recorded his first duet, My Lover with A.B Khale, which became a hit on local radio stations in the eastern region of Uganda. He took part in a number of Hip Hop battles organized by "Hot 100" including "Hip Hop Canvas", "End of the Weak Mic Challenge Uganda", and one on one battles organized in different areas of Kampala. He rapped in Luganda. [8] In 2010, he joined "Bavubuka All Starz". Along with a few of his peers, they emerged from the foundation to form a platform for their future success as The Luga Flow Army. He has had hit singles like "Tubaale", "Nina Plan", "Nzijukira", "Kakubiddewa", "Love story" and "Nva Ntinda" "Neighbour (kankuwaneko)". He has collaborated with A Pass, Keko, The Mith, Nutty Neithan, Ruyonga, Enygma and Annet Nandujja. He has future collaborations with Peter Miles, Willy Mukaabya, Navio and Bana Mutibwa. [10] He released his debut album "The translation (Okutaputa)" in 2013. [11]

Babaluku, born Silas Babaluku Balabyekkubo, is a Ugandan rapper, musician, producer, community youth activist and social entrepreneur who raps in Luganda. He is a member of the Bataka Squad. He is the founder of "the Bavubuka Foundation which equips the youth with leadership skills". He is one of the pioneers of "Lugaflow" which is rap music in Luganda. He was featured in a 2008 documentary "Diamonds in the Rough: A Ugandan Hip-hop Revolution" that covered his journey from his crew’s early days of performing in Uganda to performing in at festivals in the United States of America.

Viboyo Oweyo, real name Nsubuga Moses, is a Ugandan musician and record producer. He is signed to Swangz Avenue. He's credited for his rap ups every year He has collaborated with music heavy weights like Radio and Weasel "Nyumbani", Cindy Sanyu, "nyumirwa", Irene Ntale, In "Banyilila", "St Nelly Sade in rap up 2018", and Gnl Zamba vocals appeared on his rap up 2019.

I-Am Enygma, better known by his stage name Enygma, is a Ugandan rapper, record producer, executive producer and entrepreneur known for his wordplay laced rhymes and always wearing a mask on his face so as to conceal his identity. He rose to fame in December 2010 following the runaway success of his single, Hustler's Night featuring The mith, Keko and Navio. This was followed up by even more celebrated hits in 2011, namely F.U.M.E.M.E. and Ten Reasons. He also represents one third of occasional rap group Klarity alongside The Mith and Lyrikal Proof. Also frequently collaborates with other artists such as Ruyonga, Maurice Kirya and Lyrical G. As an entrepreneur, Enygma conducts private business, mostly outside of the entertainment industry.

Alex Julius Kwesigabo, better known by his stage name Flex D'Paper, is a Ugandan rapper and songwriter born and raised in Kampala. Starting off his music career, Flex D'Paper was part of the high school rap group, The Rapaholix, which he started with friends, Dasper Cosine and later joined by Apass as an affiliate with whom the trio put out a mix tape, The Eviction Notice that included chart topping singles like "Burning", "Party Life" and "Follow Me" which topped countdowns in Uganda such as NTV and Sanyu FM. Flex D'Paper was part of the 2014 UG Cypher including the finest Ugandan rappers: Navio, Keko, Big Tril, Don MC, AirporTaxi rappers St. Nelly Sade, GNL Zamba, DJ Global, JB, The Mith, Ruyonga, and Atlas.

Undercover Brothers Ug also simply known as Undercover Brothers are a Ugandan music duo composed of guitarist and vocalist Jay K Mulungi and vocalist Timothy Kirya, whose music career sparked off when they won the auditions and represented Uganda in the sixth season of East Africa's biggest singing competition Tusker Project Fame. The duo released their first album titled At Dawn in December 2014. In December 2016, their song Nsikatila was nominated in the Best R&B Song category at HiPipo Music Awards (#HMA) 2017.

Ediu George Stanley Nsamba, also known as "Nes" is a Ugandan film producer, director, cinematographer, screenwriter, editor, spoken-word artist and human rights activist.

Jemimah Sanyu, also known as the Stage Gladiator, is a Ugandan musician, performer, producer, and voice coach. She has a commanding stage presence with a very strong voice. Sanyu has met people like President Yoweri Museveni while singing at the I am a Ugandan album premier. She has shared a stage with top African stars like Habib Koite, Navio, Joanita Kawalya of Afrigo Band, and Juliana Kanyomozi. and many other African stars.

Suzan Kerunen is a Ugandan world music singer and songwriter who performs African contemporary music in the local Ugandan language of Alur-Jonam as well as in English, Swahili and other world languages. She is a double Kora Award nominee who competed against Ethiopia's Michaih Behaylu, Astar and Bluz and Kenyan Wahu and a PAM Award winner. She was appointed Uganda National Tourism Ambassador to promote Cultural Tourism. Kerunen has shared stages with Africa's best artists and musicians including Kenya's Suzanna Owíyo, South Africa's Yvonne Chaka Chaka, ASA and other Diaspora artists at the KORA ALL AFRICAN MUSIC AWARDS in Benin, Mama Africa Miriam Makeba, Oliver Mutukudzi, Third World, Kinobe Herbert backed up by Soul Beat Africa at The International Jazz Festival.

Sandra Nankoma, previously known as Sandy Soul, is a Ugandan recording artist, singer-songwriter, composer, actor and performer of Afro-soul and jazz music. She is well known for her single Kaddugala from her debut album Ye'nze for which she won an award for Best Female Artist in African Inspirational Music at AFRIMA Awards in 2018.
