St George's Church, Morebath is a Grade II* listed parish church in the Church of England [1] Diocese of Exeter in Morebath, Devon. It is part of the Hukeley Mission group of parishes, which also includes St Michael & All Angels Bampton, St Peter's in Clayhanger, St Petrock's in Petton and All Saint's in Huntsham. [2]
The Church of England is the established church of England. The Archbishop of Canterbury is the most senior cleric, although the monarch is the supreme governor. It traces its history to the Christian church recorded as existing in the Roman province of Britain by the third century, and to the 6th-century Gregorian mission to Kent led by Augustine of Canterbury.
Morebath is an upland village in the county of Devon, England. It is mostly given over to sheep-farming, and situated on the southern edge of Exmoor.
Bampton is a small town and parish in northeast Devon, England, on the River Batherm, a tributary of the River Exe. It is about 6 miles (9.7 km) north of Tiverton, 19 miles north of Exeter and the parish borders Somerset on its north-east and north-west sides. Bampton is a major part of the electoral ward of Clare and Shuttern. The ward population at the 2011 Census was 3,412.
The church dates from the 13th century but much is from the 15th century.
The church was restored by William Butterfield between 1874 and 1875.
William Butterfield was a Gothic Revival architect and associated with the Oxford Movement. He is noted for his use of polychromy.

Eamon Duffy is an Irish historian and academic. He is Professor of the History of Christianity at the University of Cambridge, and a Fellow and former President of Magdalene College.
The organ is by William Hill and Son and dates from 1874. A specification of the organ can be found on the National Pipe Organ Register. [5]
