St Mary, St Giles & All Saints Church, Canwell [1] , also known as simply Canwell Church [2] is the parish church of Canwell in the Lichfield district of Staffordshire, England. It is located at the junction of London Road and Brockhurst Lane. The church is jointly dedicated to Saint Mary the Virgin, Saint Giles and All Saints.
A church did not exist in Canwell until 1911, when following the death of his father. Abram Briggs Foster. Phillip Briggs Foster, Abram's son built the church as a memorial to his father. [3] The church was then given to the Church of England and to the villagers of Canwell for worship. It was designated a Grade II* listed building in February 1964 by Historic England, with a slight amendments made to the listing in January 1988. [4]
The church continues to serve as one of two parish churches in parish of Hints along with St Bartholomew's Church in the neighbouring village of Hints.
The church is also part of the "Peels Parishes" alongside St Peter's Church in Drayton Bassett, St Paul's Church, in Fazeley and Saint Barnabas Church in Mile Oak.
The parishes have named their group after Sir Robert Peel. [5]
