Mile Oak is a large village [1] in the Lichfield District in Staffordshire, England. It is close to the village of Bonehill and town of Fazeley, where it forms part of the civil parish of Fazeley. [2] The village is separated from the town of Tamworth by the Fazeley-Two Gates-Wilnecote Bypass of the A5 road. The historic Watling Street passes through the centre of the village, now commonly known as the "B5045" (Watling Street).
Mile Oak is likely to have been a township of the town of Fazeley. [3] [4] The village is located along the historic Watling Street.
From 1958 until 2010, Mile Oak was home of the Mile Oak Rovers & Youth F.C. who were based at Price Avenue. [5] However, the club folded in 2010 and the football club site has since been reused for a community centre, dance school and an academy. [6]
Located on Manor Road, is Saint Barnabas Church. It is the local parish church of the village. [7] It was built in 1963 and forms part of the "Peels Parishes", alongside St Mary, St Giles & All Saints Church in Canwell, St Peter's Church in Drayton Bassett and St Paul's Church in Fazeley.
The parishes have named their group after Sir Robert Peel. [8]
Located on Sutton Road/A453 road is a milepost in Mile Oak. It was likely built in the early 20th century and is made of cast iron. It was given Grade II listed status by Historic England in October 1987. [9]
Mile Oak main village centre is centred around Watling Street. It includes:
*Mile Oak Fish Bar – A fish and chip shop. [10]
*Nisa Local – A convenience shop. [11]
* Mercedes-Benz of Tamworth – A car dealership that sells Mercedes-Benz. [12]
*Little Oaks Pre School and Longwood Primary School – A mixed use educational hub of both a preschool and primary school off Allton Avenue. [13]
*Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital – A community hospital. [14]
There has also been ongoing housing developments around Mile Oak, including new proposed ones. [15]
