Skillet is an American Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1996. The band currently consists of husband and wife duo John Cooper and Korey Cooper along with Jen Ledger and Seth Morrison. The band has released eleven studio albums, two of which, Collide and Comatose, received Grammy nominations. Two of their albums, Comatose and Awake, are certified Platinum and Double Platinum respectively by the RIAA, while Rise and Unleashed are certified Gold as of June 29, 2020. Four of their songs, "Monster", "Hero", "Awake and Alive", and "Feel Invincible", are certified Multi-Platinum, while another three, "Whispers in the Dark", "Comatose", and "The Resistance" are certified Platinum, and another three, "Rebirthing", "Not Gonna Die", and "The Last Night" certified Gold.
Gym Class Heroes is an American rap rock band from Geneva, New York. The group formed in 1997 when Travie McCoy met drummer Matt McGinley during their high school gym class. The band's music displays a wide variety of influences, including hip hop, rock, funk, and reggae. After the addition of guitarist Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo and bassist Eric Roberts in 2003, the group was signed to Fueled by Ramen and Decaydance Records, on which they released their debut album, The Papercut Chronicles. The group gained a strong fanbase while promoting the album, appearing at festivals such as The Bamboozle and Vans Warped Tour.

It contained 10 tracks including all four tracks from the 2012 EP, a bonus track, and an online link to a second bonus track. It was self-produced through the band's own indie record label, Hundred Handed Inc. and featured the singles "Every Last Thing" and "The Broken", which were both featured in music videos. The album received mostly positive reviews but was largely commercially unsuccessful.

It had Ryan "Frogs" McCormack on bass guitar instead of Justin Siegel, who left in 2013 to pursue other interests. The album contained 11 new songs self-produced by the band's own indie record label, Hundred Handed Inc. and included the singles "Leave Your Mark" and "Fair-Weather Friend". The album received mixed but generally positive reviews and even had some minor rock music Billboard success, proving to be marginally more successful than their previous album.
