State Research Bureau, also marketed as S.R.B., is a Ugandan action film directed by Matt Bish. It's a story based on Uganda's dark past and exposes the brutality of the President's secret intelligence police that ran safe houses.
Before 1986, a family tries to flee the troubled country, but are intercepted by state operatives. They meet the notorious Captain Yusuf who runs a safe house (prison). It's the 1980s, but Yusuf's unit reflects the State Research Bureau during the 1970s.
S.R.B. featured Roger Masaba as the notorious intelligence chief, Joel Okuyo Atiku as James, Cleopatra Koheirwe and Matthew Nabwiso. Also making an appearance is Roger Mugisha, the inspiration for Matt Bish's first film Battle of the Souls in which Okuyo and Nabwiso had starred back in 2007.
The film premiered in Kansanga, a suburb of Kampala, Uganda at Wonder World [2] (former Didi's World) on 25 January 2011, the 32nd Anniversary since Idi Amin's Overthrow by Tanzanian armed forces plus Ugandan exiles and an evening just before the 25th Anniversary of the National Resistance Movement's Liberation Day.
In 2013, it swept the inaugural Uganda Film Festival Awards organised by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), winning in four categories. [3]
One unforgettable line in the movie, though sarcastic, is: "Welcome to Hotel Arua, hahaha!" Although shot mainly in Jinja, Uganda, it was inspired by the stories of real life survivors of the era. The movie starts in Arua where innocent civilians are gunned down, reminiscent of the Ombaci Massacre during the Obote II regime.

The emerging film industry in Uganda is known as Ugawood or sometimes Kinauganda by the locals. In a story that ran in a local newspaper in Uganda about the naming of the industry, filmmakers Kuddzu Isaac, Matt Bish and Usama Mukwaya were quoted as saying that Ugawood would be the most appropriate name for the industry.
Okuyo Joel Atiku Prynce is a Ugandan actor, model, photographer and lecturer at Uganda Christian University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration (BSWSA) plus Makerere University, the Best Two Campuses in Uganda. His film acting breakthrough came when he was cast as the Devil's reincarnation in Ugandan director Matt Bish's 2007 Film Battle of the Souls, a popular Ugawood Movie. It was based on the real-life story of the director's brother, KFM Radio Presenter Roger Mugisha. Prynce is also the President of his own company The Lhynnq-X, Inc. Born in Arua on 4 December 1983 to a Lugbara couple, the late Lt.Colonel Gabriel Francis Atiku and Yema Drakuru Atiku, his debut villain role won him over five international accolades including Best Supporting Actor at the Balafon Film Festival in Bari, Italy (2008) and 2009's Best Actor in Supporting Role at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in Lagos, Nigeria. Other awards include Best Actor at both Ubuntu Village, Colorado (USA) in 2010 and the 2011 Zanzibar International Film Festival [ZIFF] in Tanzania. Ugandan newspaper The Observer labelled Okuyo Africa's Brad Pitt.
Usama "Osam" Nyanzi Mukwaya is a Ugandan screenwriter, film director, producer, actor and former television host. He launched his filmmaking career with the short film Hello that won overall best film in the 2010 MNFPAC Students Awards.
The 3rd Pearl International Film Festival took place in Kampala, Uganda from 13 to 16 May 2013. King's Virgin won Best Picture. Film director Prince Joe Nakibinge was awarded the best director prize. Film director Matt Bish was the festival chief jury. He was previously the winner of best film at the 2nd edition in 2012. The festival also had special screenings of two African films, Nairobi Half Life and Nina's Dowry that initially vied for the Best Foreign Film award that was later removed from the categories.
Battle of the Souls is a 2007 supernatural Ugandan thriller directed by Matt Bish. It featured in the 28th African Film Festival of Verona (Italy). Dubbed the 'first' Ugawood feature film, it was also Matt's maiden film after returning home to Kampala in 2005 from film school in Amsterdam. He assembled a cast that made film history. It received 10 nominations at the 5th Africa Movie Academy Awards and eventually scooped the awards for Best Visual Effect and Best Supporting Actor.
A Good Catholic Girl is a 2010 Ugandan short film about a Muslim girl's attraction to someone from a different religious affiliation. It was written, produced and directed by Matt Bish. Matthew Nabwiso won the Best Supporting actor award at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for playing "Ahmed" in the film.
Matt Bish, also known as Matthew Bishanga, is a Ugandan filmmaker and the Creative Director at Bish Films. He directed the first Ugawood feature film, Battle of the Souls, in 2007.

Kyaddala is a Ugandan drama television series by Reach a Hand Uganda. The first season was produced by Emmanuel Ikubese Films and Reach a Hand Uganda. Set in a present day high school life, Kyaddala a Luganda word for "It's Real", focuses on real life social issues that affect young people across Africa and their attempts to overcome those issues. The series features actors and actresses from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and Nigeria. Kyaddala premiered on 27 September 2019 at Kingdom Kampala.

Eleanor Vaal Nansibo Nabwiso is a Ugandan actress, producer, director and television personality. She is known for her work on The Hostel, Rain, Beneath the Lies - The Series and Bed of Thorns as the director. She also owns a production company called Nabwiso Films which she set up together with her husband Matthew Nabwiso.
The Uganda Film Festival Award for Best Director, also known as Feature Film of the Year, is an award presented annually by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) at the Uganda Film Festival Awards. It is given in honor of a film director who has exhibited outstanding directing while working in the film industry in Uganda. It's different from Best Feature Film which is awarded for best motion. The award was introduced in 2013 and the first winner of the award was Matt Bish for his directing work on State Research Bureau. Rehema Nanfuka became the first female director to be nominated at the Uganda Film Festival Awards in 2018 and became the first female director to win the award in Uganda.

Stain is a Ugandan drama film produced and directed by Morris Mugisha. It premiered in Kampala on March 1, 2021, and was Mugisha's directorial debut. The film received 7 nominations at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in Nigeria and Joan Agaba won the award for Best Actress in a Leading role. The film also won 5 awards out of 12 nominations at the 2021 Uganda Film Festival Awards.
