Stephen C. Belichick (born March 25, 1987) is an American college football coach who is the defensive coordinator for the University of Washington, a position he has held since 2024. He was an assistant coach for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL) from 2012 to 2023.
Belichick played lacrosse at The Rivers School in Weston, Massachusetts, and was an All-League Honorable Mention selection in his senior year. [1] He then attended Rutgers University where he continued to play lacrosse [2] as a defenseman and long-stick midfielder (LSM) from 2008 through 2011. He also played for Rutgers Football under coach Greg Schiano in 2011 as a long snapper. [3]
On May 10, 2012, Belichick was hired as a coaching assistant by the New England Patriots, where his father Bill was the head coach. [4] He served in that position for four seasons before being named safeties coach prior to the start of the 2016 season. [5] He won his first Super Bowl when the Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX. [6]
On February 5, 2017, Belichick was part of the Patriots coaching staff that won Super Bowl LI. In the game, the Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons by a score of 34–28 in overtime. [7]
For the 2019 season, after long-time assistant Brian Flores left to become the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Belichick assumed defensive play calling duties previously held by Flores while also operating as the team's secondary coach. [8] He won his third Super Bowl title when the Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. [9] The Patriots held the Rams to three points in the lowest scoring Super Bowl ever. [10]
On July 28, 2020, the Patriots moved Stephen from safeties to outside linebackers coach and promoted his brother Brian to safeties coach. [11]
On February 6, 2024, Belichick was hired as the defensive coordinator of the University of Washington. [12]
Belichick is the son of former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and the grandson of Steve Belichick. His younger brother, Brian Belichick, works in the New England Patriots organization, currently serving as the team's safeties coach. [13]

He began his NFL career in 2001 with the New England Patriots, where he served as the offensive coordinator for 14 non-consecutive seasons. During McDaniels' first stint as offensive coordinator from 2006 to 2008, New England set the season record for points scored and won 16 of their 16 regular season games in 2007. In his second stint from 2012 to 2021, the Patriots won three Super Bowl titles. McDaniels was also among the Patriots personnel to be present for all six of their titles during the Brady–Belichick era.
Marquand Alexander Manuel is an American football coach and former safety who is the Safeties coach for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons and as an assistant coach for the Seattle Seahawks. After playing college football for the University of Florida, he was selected in the sixth round of the 2002 NFL draft. He played for eight seasons in the NFL for the Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Detroit Lions. He was the defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons from 2017 to 2018.

Matthew Edward Patricia is an American football coach in the National Football League (NFL). He served 15 non-consecutive seasons as an assistant coach with the New England Patriots, including six seasons as the defensive coordinator from 2012 to 2017. Following the victory, he served as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2019 to 2021.
Scott O'Brien is an American football coach and former player who is currently serving as an area scout for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). A former defensive end/linebacker, O'Brien served as a special teams coach for three college football teams and for five NFL franchises during a 35-year long coaching career. In 2015, O'Brien retired from coaching and began his current role as an area scout.
