Daxton Swanson (born March 21, 1991) is an American former professional football cornerback who played college football at Sam Houston State. Swanson signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2013.

College career

Swanson spent his first year at Toledo University before transferring to Sam Houston State the next year, immediately earning a starting position. [1] He was an honorable mention All-Southland Conference selection in his sophomore year, a second-team All-Southland Conference player in his junior year, and a first-team All-Southland Conference player in his senior year, getting 46 tackles, 14 pass breakups, and 4 interceptions. [2] He ended his college career as the all-time leader in interceptions at Sam Houston State, with 14. [3]

Professional career

Indianapolis Colts

Swanson declared for the 2013 NFL draft, but went undrafted. One contributing factor to his being undrafted was that he tore his hamstring two weeks before the NFL Combine. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts in time for the 2013 season, but was placed on the injured reserve and was waived on October 29.

San Francisco 49ers

He was then signed with the San Francisco 49ers on the practice squad before being released on May 12, 2014. [4]

New England Patriots

On May 22, 2014, Swanson was signed by the New England Patriots. On August 30, he was waived. On September 1, he was signed to the practice squad. On September 3, he was released from practice squad. On September 17, he was re-signed to the practice squad. [5] On November 26, he was released from practice squad. On December 3, he was re-signed to the practice squad. On December 23, he was released from practice squad. On December 27, he was re-signed to the practice squad. He also earned a Super Bowl ring. [6]

Swanson was released by the Patriots on September 5, 2015. [7]

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

On October 20, 2015, Swanson was signed to the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. [8] On October 27, he was released from practice squad.

New York Giants

On November 5, 2015, Swanson was signed by the Giants to the practice squad. On November 16, 2015, he was released by the Giants. [9]

Miami Dolphins

On November 25, 2015, Swanson was signed by the Dolphins to the practice squad. On February 23, 2016, Swanson was waived by the Dolphins. [10]

Dallas Cowboys

On June 13, 2016, Swanson signed with the Dallas Cowboys. [11] In preseason he made the team over Deji Olatoye. On September 12, he was released to make room for defensive end Ryan Davis. [12]

The 2008 Miami Dolphins season was the franchise's 39th season in the National Football League (NFL), the 43rd overall and the first under new head coach Tony Sparano. During the regular season the Dolphins completed the greatest single-season turnaround in NFL history, going from a 1–15 regular season record in 2007 to an 11–5 record in 2008. The previous record for most improved team one year after a 1–15 season belonged to the 1997 New York Jets, who went 9–7. The 1999 Indianapolis Colts were the only other team to accomplish a 10-game turnaround, winning 13 games after winning 3 in 1998, which was also the first year of the Peyton Manning era. Additionally, Miami won the AFC East, becoming the first team in NFL history to win their division after only having one win the previous season. The division title also snapped the Patriots' 5-year streak of winning the AFC East. Their season would come to an end in the Wild Card round when they were defeated by the Baltimore Ravens, which coincidentally, was also the only team they beat last season in overtime to save the Dolphins from suffering a winless season. With their 11–5 record and division title, the Dolphins had hopes of achieving their first playoff victory since 2000, or to possibly become the first team ever to make the Super Bowl after winning only one game the previous season, similar to how the Carolina Panthers went 1–15 in 2001 and made Super Bowl XXXVIII just two seasons later.
