Stephen Christopher Dwight (born July 1977) [1] is the district attorney for the 14th judicial district and a former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 35 in Calcasieu and Beauregard parishes. Unopposed in the nonpartisan blanket primary scheduled for October 24,2015,Dwight succeeded the term-limited Republican Brett Geymann when the legislature reconvened on January 11,2016. [2]
Dwight is a graduate of Sam Houston High School in Moss Bluff in Calcasieu Parish and Louisiana State University and Southern University Law Center,both in Baton Rouge. He was first licensed to practice law in 2003. [3] He is city attorney and prosecutor for Westlake in Calcasieu Parish and general counsel for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department.
He and his wife,the former Jessica Brown,a librarian at Moss Bluff Elementary School,married in 2004. They three children,Riley,Peyton,and Hudson. He is a Methodist.
Calcasieu Parish is a parish located on the southwestern border of the U.S. state of Louisiana. As of the 2020 census,the population was 216,785. The parish seat is Lake Charles.

Moss Bluff is a census-designated place (CDP) in Calcasieu Parish,Louisiana,United States. The population was 12,522 at the 2020 census. Located just north of the city of Lake Charles,it is considered a suburb of that city. Moss Bluff is a burgeoning community,and is one of the communities in Calcasieu Parish besides Lake Charles and Sulphur experiencing growth. Several efforts have been made to incorporate Moss Bluff,but at the present time the community is unincorporated.
Westlake is a city in Calcasieu Parish,in western Louisiana,United States,and is part of the Lake Charles Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,568 at the 2010 census. Westlake was incorporated in 1945.
McNeese State University is a public university in Lake Charles,Louisiana. Founded in 1939 as Lake Charles Junior College,it was renamed McNeese Junior College after John McNeese,an early local educator. The present name was adopted in 1970. McNeese is part of the University of Louisiana System and is classified as a Master's University. The selective admissions university consists of six colleges and the DoréSchool of Graduate Studies. McNeese is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and all programs of study are accredited by their respective national boards.
Wilbert Rideau is an American convicted killer and former death row inmate from Lake Charles,Louisiana,who became an author and award-winning journalist while held for 44 years at Angola Prison. Rideau was convicted in 1961 of first-degree murder of Julia Ferguson in the course of a bank robbery that year,and sentenced to death. He was held in solitary confinement on death row,pending execution. After the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that states had to rework their death penalty statutes because of constitutional concerns,the Louisiana Court judicially amended his sentence in 1972 to life in prison.

Loyola University New Orleans College of Law is a private law school in New Orleans,Louisiana affiliated with Loyola University New Orleans. Alexander Pierre "A. P." Tureaud,Sr. was an African-American attorney who headed the legal team for the New Orleans chapter of the NAACP during the Civil Rights Movement. With the assistance of Thurgood Marshall and Robert Carter from the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund,A. P. Hodges on June 26,2015 held that the denial of marriage rights to same-sex couples is unconstitutional,invalidating the ban on same-sex marriage in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The ruling clarified conflicting court rulings on whether Louisiana officials are obligated to license same-sex marriages. Governor Bobby Jindal confirmed on June 28 that Louisiana would comply with the ruling once the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed its decision in a Louisiana case,which the Fifth Circuit did on July 1. Jindal then said the state would not comply with the ruling until the federal District Court reversed its judgment,which it did on July 2. All parishes now issue marriage licenses in accordance with federal law.
