Charles Steven Cox (born October 31,1974) is an American former professional baseball first baseman. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Yokohama BayStars.
Cox attended Monache High School in Porterville,California,graduating in 1992. [1] was chosen in the fifth round of the 1992 Major League Baseball Draft by the Oakland Athletics. He played in their organization for six seasons without appearing in the major leagues. He was selected by the Devil Rays with the 46th pick in the 1997 MLB Expansion Draft.
Cox broke out in 1999,when he posted an impressive .341/.414/.588 batting line with 25 home runs and 107 runs scored for the Durham Bulls,earning International League MVP honors.
Cox was first called up to MLB on September 17,1999,along with Jim Morris. He made his Major League debut on September 19,1999 as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning against the Texas Rangers,in which he also earned his first major league hit,a double off of Jeff Fassero. For the 1999 season,Cox appeared in 6 games,batting .211 in 19 at-bats.
Cox began the 2000 season on the major league roster,and spent the entire season with the Rays. In 116 games,Cox hit .283/.379/.453 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs. Cox received a single vote in AL Rookie of the Year voting,tying him for sixth place with Adam Kennedy,Mark Redman and Barry Zito. [2]
Cox spent the next two years as an near everyday player for the Rays,playing in 256 out of a possible 324 games. In 2001,he hit .257/.323/.427 with 12 home runs and 51 RBIs in 108 games. In 2002,he was a regular starter at first base and as a designated hitter appearing in 148 games,hitting .254/.330/.396 with 30 doubles,16 home runs and 72 RBIs.
During the 2002 offseason,Cox who was coming off a career-best season,surprisingly,decided to leave the Rays and the MLB behind to play for the Yokohama BayStars of the NPB. [3] In his lone season in Japan,he only appeared in 15 games,batting .200/.298/.280 with 1 home run and 7 RBIs.
He returned briefly to the Devil Rays organization,playing 19 games for the Durham Bulls during the 2005 season,where he hit .210/.329/.436 with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs before retiring.
In 2007,Cox became the head coach for Porterville College,and coached the Pirates for two seasons. [4]
Frederick Stanley McGriff is an American former first baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB) who played for six teams from 1986 through 2004. He was one of the most consistently productive powers hitters of the 1990s,posting over 80 runs batted in (RBI) every year from 1988 through 2002,and became the first player since the dead-ball era to lead both leagues in home runs —the American League (AL) in 1989 and the National League (NL) in 1992. A five-time All-Star,he was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1994 contest after his pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the ninth inning tied the score at 7–7,with the NL winning in 10 innings. McGriff finished in the top ten in voting for his league's Most Valuable Player Award every year from 1989 through 1994,during which time he led the major leagues in home runs.
Hideki Matsui,nicknamed "Godzilla",is a Japanese former professional baseball outfielder and designated hitter who played baseball in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and Major League Baseball (MLB). He batted left-handed and threw right-handed.
Aubrey Lewis Huff III is an American former professional baseball player who played 13 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). Huff played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays,Houston Astros,Baltimore Orioles,Detroit Tigers,and San Francisco Giants,the last of which he was a member of for two World Series championships. He batted left-handed and threw right-handed.
JoséCastillo Rondón was a Venezuelan professional baseball infielder. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates,San Francisco Giants,and Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Chiba Lotte Marines and Yokohama BayStars of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). He was killed in a car crash in 2018 in Venezuela,caused by bandits in an attempted robbery.
Mark David Quinn is an American former Major League Baseball outfielder and right-handed batter who played for the Kansas City Royals and former coach for the Baltimore Orioles. Quinn was drafted in the 11th round of the 1995 Amateur Draft after playing two seasons for the Rice University Owls. He played for the Royals between 1999–2002. He retired for good in 2007 after spring training with the Yomiuri Giants.

He was the bullpen coach for the Cleveland Indians before being hired as the Rays' manager in December 2014. Cash was the American League Manager of the Year in 2020 and 2021,the first AL manager to win the award consecutively.

During a seventeen-year MLB career (1966–1982),Smith appeared in 1,987 games,hit 314 home runs with 1,092 RBI and batted .287. He was a switch-hitter who threw right-handed. In his prime,he had one of the strongest throwing arms of any outfielder in the MLB. Smith played at least seventy games in thirteen different seasons,and in every one of those thirteen seasons,his team had a winning record.

He played in the 2002 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. He currently works as an analyst for Giants broadcasts on NBC Sports Bay Area.
