The Black Dahlia Murder is an American melodic death metal band from Waterford, Michigan, formed in 2001. Their name is derived from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, often referred to as Black Dahlia. Currently, the band consists of lead vocalist Brian Eschbach, bassist Max Lavelle, drummer Alan Cassidy, and guitarists Brandon Ellis and Ryan Knight. The Black Dahlia Murder has undergone various lineup changes, with Trevor Strnad and Eschbach remaining the only constant members, until the former's death in 2022, which then saw Eschbach take over lead vocals.
Deathcore is an extreme metal subgenre that combines death metal with metalcore. The genre consists of death metal guitar riffs, blast beats, and metalcore breakdowns. While there are some precursors to the concept of death metal fused with metalcore/hardcore elements seen in the 1990s, deathcore itself emerged in the early 2000s and gained prominence beginning in the mid-2000s within the southwestern United States, especially Arizona and inland southern California, which are home to many notable bands and various festivals.
Miasma is the second studio album by American melodic death metal band the Black Dahlia Murder. Released through Metal Blade Records on July 12, 2005, Miasma is the only album to feature drummer Zach Gibson, who replaced founding member and drummer, Cory Grady, as well as being the last with bassist David Lock. Gibson also left the band the following year after the release of the album and was replaced by Shannon Lucas, formerly of All That Remains.
Make Them Suffer is an Australian metalcore band from Perth, formed in 2008. They are currently signed to Greyscale Records. Their debut studio album Neverbloom peaked at No. 56 on the ARIA Album charts in June 2012, and showcased the band's earlier mix of metalcore, blackened death metal, and symphonic metal. Its follow-up Old Souls debuted at No. 30 upon release in May 2015 and displayed the band beginning to transition from death/black metal to a more progressive metalcore sound. After the band signed with Rise, the label released an expanded version of Old Souls in August 2016, containing also an EP from their death metal era Lord of Woe and a new track, "Ether".
Bloodlust is the debut studio album by American deathcore band Through the Eyes of the Dead, released on October 25, 2005 through Prosthetic Records. After releasing an EP and a split, Through the Eyes of the Dead released Bloodlust. The album is considered a deathcore album with elements of melodic death metal, featuring a musical style similar to bands like At the Gates and The Black Dahlia Murder. Before the deathcore label existed, Bloodlust was labeled as metalcore due to its combination of melodic death metal with occasional hardcore breakdowns, which resembled metalcore. Bloodlust's lyrics were inspired by serial killers, and depicted poetic lyrics telling stories and imagery. Through the Eyes of the Dead cited Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Death, In Flames, At the Gates and Dark Tranquility as influences.
Whitechapel is an American deathcore band from Knoxville, Tennessee. The band is named after the Whitechapel district in East London, England, where Jack the Ripper committed a series of murders. The group comprises vocalist Phil Bozeman, guitarists Ben Savage, Alex Wade, and Zach Householder and bassist Gabe Crisp. Founded in 2006 by Bozeman and Savage, the band has released eight studio albums and fourteen music videos, and are currently signed to Metal Blade Records. Whitechapel's 2010 album A New Era of Corruption, sold around 10,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release and debuted at position No. 43 on the Billboard 200 chart. The band's self-titled fourth album was released in 2012 and debuted at No. 47 on the Billboard 200, selling roughly 9,200 copies in its first week. In 2014 the band released their fifth full-length album, Our Endless War to generally positive reviews. The album sold roughly 16,000 copies in its first week and debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200. They released their sixth full-length album Mark of the Blade in 2016 to greater critical acclaim, selling roughly 8,000 copies in the first week of its release. In 2019, Whitechapel released their seventh album, The Valley, which debuted at No. 143 on the Billboard 200 also to critical acclaim. Their newest album, Kin, was released on October 29, 2021.
Carnifex is an American deathcore band from San Diego County, California. Formed in 2005, they are currently signed to Nuclear Blast after having been signed to Victory Records. They have released eight full-length albums and three EPs. Since 2022, the band has consisted of founding members, lead vocalist Scott Ian Lewis and drummer Shawn Cameron, along with rhythm guitarist Cory Arford, bassist Fred Calderon and lead guitarist Neal Tiemann.
Chelsea Grin is an American deathcore band from Salt Lake City, Utah. Formed in 2007, the group have released two EPs and seven full-length albums. Since 2018, no original members remain in the band.
Desolation of Eden is the debut studio album by American deathcore band Chelsea Grin. It was released February 16, 2010 through Artery Recordings. Upon its release, the album reached 21 on the Top Heatseekers chart. Desolation of Eden features two re-recordings of the songs "Cheyne Stokes" and "Recreant" which were originally on the band's self-titled EP.
My Damnation is the second studio album by American deathcore band Chelsea Grin. The band entered the studio early 2011 and finished near the middle of the year. The title track was released as a single on April 17, 2011. My Damnation was released on July 19, 2011 through Artery Recordings.
Lorna Shore is an American deathcore band formed in New Jersey in 2009. The group currently consists of lead guitarist Adam De Micco, drummer Austin Archey, rhythm guitarist Andrew O'Connor, vocalist Will Ramos, and bassist Michael Yager. The band is most known for their 2021 single "To the Hellfire". They have released four studio albums Psalms (2015), Flesh Coffin (2017), Immortal (2020), and Pain Remains (2022). The band has also released four EPs. Since 2017, no original members remain in the band.
Ashes to Ashes is the third studio album by American deathcore band Chelsea Grin released on July 8, 2014 via Artery and Razor & Tie. It is also the debut of drummer Pablo Viveros. The album also saw the debut of Viveros' co-vocals, allowing lead vocalist Alex Koehler to focus solely on high ranged screams while Viveros took on the mid to low ranged vocals.
Self Inflicted is the fourth studio album by American deathcore band Chelsea Grin. The album debuted at number 105 on the Billboard 200. This is the band's last album to feature vocalist Alex Koehler and guitarists Jake Harmond and Dan Jones before their departures in 2017 and 2018.
Slaughter to Prevail is a Russian deathcore band originally from Yekaterinburg, and based in Orlando, Florida. The group debuted with an EP titled Chapters of Misery in 2015 and followed up two years later with a full-length album, Misery Sermon. Their second album, Kostolom, released in 2021. The band is currently signed to Sumerian Records and have toured through the US, Europe, and Asia.
Eternal Nightmare is the fifth studio album by American deathcore band Chelsea Grin. It was released on July 13, 2018. It is the first album from the band without either frontman Alex Koehler and guitarists Jacob Harmond and Dan Jones. The departure of the three also makes this release the first to not feature any founding members. It is also the first album that Chelsea Grin has recorded as a four-piece band, with ex-Lorna Shore vocalist Tom Barber joining the band on vocal duties. On April 27, 2018, Koehler confirmed this as well as his new solo act, Grudges, and Chelsea Grin released the lead single from the album, named "Dead Rose". The second single, "Hostage", was released on June 1, 2018. The third single, "See You Soon" was released on June 14, 2018. This is the last album to be released by Rise Records.
Immortal is the third studio album by American deathcore band Lorna Shore. It was released on January 31, 2020 through Century Media Records and was produced by Josh Schroeder. The album is the band's first studio release with the label. It is also their first studio release to not feature founding vocalist Tom Barber, who left the band to join Chelsea Grin. It is the band's only studio album to feature vocalist CJ McCreery, who joined the band in 2018 and was fired in December 2019, a month before the album's release date. In addition to the 2017 departure of bassist Gary Herrera, this marks the band's first studio album to feature no founding members.
Shadow of Intent is an American deathcore band from Connecticut. They formed in 2013 as a Halo-themed studio project by Ben Duerr and Chris Wiseman. The band's name is a reference to a Covenant ship in the Halo series. They are not signed to a label and have released their albums independently. They have released four studio albums to date, along with two instrumental versions of previous releases, and a deluxe album. Their fourth studio album entitled Elegy was released independently on January 14, 2022.
Signs of the Swarm is an American deathcore band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania formed in 2014. The band consists of drummer Bobby Crow, vocalist David Simonich, guitarist Jeff Russo and bassist Michael Cassese. They released their debut album Senseless Order on April 29, 2016, and their second album The Disfigurement of Existence on November 3, 2017. Their third album Vital Deprivation was released on October 11, 2019, and their fourth album Absolvere was released on September 24, 2021.
Suffer in Heaven is the seventh studio album by American deathcore band Chelsea Grin. It was released on March 17, 2023, as the second part of a double album split as two separate releases, with the first part, Suffer in Hell, previously released on November 11, 2022. As with the previous album, former drummer/co-vocalist Pablo Viveros, despite being on hiatus from the band since 2021 and had made commitments with another artist in the downtime during COVID-19 pandemic to perform and tour, was still a member of the band, but would continue to take a hiatus from the band to fulfill his commitments, with session member Nathan Pearson taking his place.
