My Damnation is the second studio album by American deathcore band Chelsea Grin. The band entered the studio early 2011 and finished near the middle of the year. The title track was released as a single on April 17,2011. My Damnation was released on July 19,2011 through Artery Recordings.
The album's lyrics reference Hell and eternal damnation, which are portrayed after death. Musically, the album features many more guitar solos than that of previous releases. [3] [4] Referencing the album, Alternative Press wrote that the band's "Suicide Silence-esque bludgeon" possessed "shades of blackened death metal". [5]
Vocalist,Alex Koehler, stated that the record holds a specific concept in contrast to their previous albums;"I wanted to make the lyrics based more on a story of a man's journey from being a selfish tyrant,to being condemned to hell, seeking forgiveness, and salvation. I wasn't trying to write a religious or spiritual album. I just find the concept of heaven and hell completely fascinating,so it makes it easy to write about." [6]

Heany Gregory of AllMusic stated "Smashing together the macabre intensity of death metal with the chugging, technical gymnastics of metalcore,Utah’s Chelsea Grin brutalize listeners with their punishing sophomore effort ... [which] attacks the listener with a relentless deathcore barrage". [1]
Alex Young of Consequence of Sound gave album C−,stating that "My Damnation serves as minor evidence that Chelsea Grin might not become a throwaway copycat. Fans can only hope polish doesn't push these Utah rockers away from their current path and towards the poppier territory of their more famous neighbors." [8]

Extreme metal is a loosely defined umbrella term for a number of related heavy metal music subgenres that have developed since the early 1980s. It has been defined as a "cluster of metal subgenres characterized by sonic, verbal, and visual transgression".
Deathcore is an extreme metal subgenre that combines death metal with metalcore. The genre consists of death metal guitar riffs, blast beats, and metalcore breakdowns. While there are some precursors to the concept of death metal fused with metalcore/hardcore elements seen in the 1990s, deathcore itself emerged in the early 2000s and gained prominence beginning in the mid-2000s within the southwestern United States, especially Arizona and inland southern California, which are home to many notable bands and various festivals.

Its follow-up Old Souls debuted at No. 30 upon release in May 2015 and displayed the band beginning to transition from death/black metal to a more progressive metalcore sound. After the band signed with Rise Records, the label released an expanded version of Old Souls in August 2016, containing also an EP from their death metal era Lord of Woe and a new track, "Ether". Bloodlust is the debut studio album by American deathcore band Through the Eyes of the Dead, released on October 25, 2005 through Prosthetic Records. After releasing an EP and a split, Through the Eyes of the Dead released Bloodlust. Before the deathcore label existed, Bloodlust was labeled as metalcore due to its combination of melodic death metal with occasional hardcore breakdowns, which resembled metalcore. Bloodlust's lyrics were inspired by serial killers, and depicted poetic lyrics telling stories and imagery. Through the Eyes of the Dead cited Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Death, In Flames, At the Gates and Dark Tranquility as influences.
