Sullivan & Son is an American sitcom created by Steve Byrne and Rob Long that was broadcast on TBS. It starred Byrne as Steve Sullivan, who surprises his parents when he leaves his job as a corporate lawyer to take over a bar owned by his father in Pittsburgh. The series was executive-produced by Vince Vaughn, Peter Billingsley, and Long, who also served as showrunner. It premiered on July 19, 2012. [1] On November 20, 2014, TBS cancelled Sullivan & Son after three seasons. [2]
The series centers on Steve Sullivan (Byrne), a corporate attorney from New York City who visits his Irish American father Jack (Dan Lauria) and Korean mother Ok Cha (Jodi Long) just as they are preparing to sell their bar in a Pittsburgh working-class neighborhood and retire. [3] To their surprise, he decides to stay and run the bar. [4] The bar is a popular venue among the locals, and is the unofficial "town hall" of the neighborhood. [3]
Sullivan & Son was ordered to pilot by cable channel TBS on September 30, 2011. It was among three half-hour pilots being considered by the channel, the others being Men at Work and BFF. [6] TBS had been developing comedies that could be paired with reruns of The Big Bang Theory . [7] After greenlighting Men at Work to series in January 2012, TBS was to choose between Sullivan & Son and BFF to fill its new hour-long comedy slot. [4] On February 10, 2012, TBS picked up Sullivan & Son to series with a 10-episode order with a premiere date set for summer 2012. [3] [8]
The pilot was written by Steve Byrne and Rob Long with Byrne in the starring role. [6] Valerie Azlynn, Jodi Long, Vivian Bang, Owen Benjamin, and Dan Lauria were added to the cast in October. The show was filmed in front of a live studio audience. [9] [10] TBS announced that it had renewed Sullivan & Son for a second season of 10 more episodes that premiered on June 13, 2013. [11] [12] On August 20, 2013, TBS announced it had renewed the series for a 13-episode third season that premiered in June 2014. [13]
Sullivan & Son has received mixed to negative reviews, garnering a score of 47 out of 100 on Metacritic. [14]

Natalie Zea is an American actress known for her performances on television. Zea began her acting career in theatre. Her first major role was on the NBC daytime soap opera Passions (2000–2002), where she played the role of Gwen Hotchkiss. Her breakout role was on the ABC primetime soap opera Dirty Sexy Money as socialite Karen Darling, where she starred from 2007 to 2009. Zea also has made many guest appearances on television, starred in a number of independent and made-for-television movies, and had recurring roles in The Shield, Hung, Californication, and The Unicorn.

Roy Norris Wood Jr. is an American stand-up comedian and actor best known for his correspondent appearances on The Daily Show. A resident of Manhattan, Wood was raised in Birmingham, Alabama, and Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating from Ramsay High School in 1996, Wood began his career in stand-up comedy as the opening act for Tommy Davidson. He had a position as head writer on the WBHJ radio series Buckwilde Morning Show from 2001 to 2006. Steve Byrne is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He is best known from his multiple stand up comedy hour specials; creating, writing, and starring in Sullivan & Son; and as the writer/director of the feature film The Opening Act.

She began her career portraying Liberty Ciccone on the CBS soap opera As the World Turns (2008–2010), which earned her a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series in 2009. Following her departure from As the World Turns, she appeared as a series regular on the FX drama Lights Out (2011) and the TBS sitcom Men at Work (2012–2014).
