Johor Bahru is the capital of the state of Johor, Malaysia. It is located along the Straits of Johor at the southern end of Peninsular Malaysia. The city has a population of 663,307 within an area of 220 km2. Johor Bahru is adjacent to the city of Iskandar Puteri and Pasir Gudang, together with their surrounding areas anchoring Malaysia's third largest urban agglomeration, Iskandar Malaysia, with a population of 1,638,219.
Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail was the 24th Sultan of Johor and the 4th Sultan of Modern Johor. He succeeded his father Sultan Ismail upon the latter's death on 10 May 1981. He was the eighth Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 26 April 1984 to 25 April 1989. Sultan Iskandar's reign lasted for almost 29 years until his death in January 2010. His children are married into the different royal houses of Malaysia. His eldest daughter Tunku Kamariah, the Tengku Puan Laksamana, married the Tengku Laksamana of Selangor, Tengku Sulaiman Shah. His successor and eldest son Sultan Ibrahim married Raja Zarith Sofiah of the Perak Royal Family. His daughter Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah married the heir apparent of Pahang, now Sultan Abdullah. His younger son Tunku Abdul Majid married a member of the Kedah Royal Family, Tunku Teh Mazni.

The Sultan Ibrahim Building is a former state secretariat building of Johor. It is located at Bukit Timbalan in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The building was constructed between 1936 and 1939 and was completed in 1940 as the British colonial government attempted to streamline the state's administration. It was officially opened by the late Sultan Ibrahim of Johor.
Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar is the 25th Sultan of Johor and the 5th Sultan of modern Johor. He is the son of Sultan Iskandar. A motorcycle enthusiast, Sultan Ibrahim is well known as the founder of the annual motorcycling tour event, Kembara Mahkota Johor.

The 23 km (14 mi) highway connects Iskandar Puteri in the west to Johor Bahru in the east. It is a toll free highway and part of the Iskandar Malaysia project. The Iskandar Coastal Highway is the fifth east–west-oriented expressway in the Iskandar Malaysia area after the Pasir Gudang Highway, the Pontian–Johor Bahru Link of the Second Link Expressway, the Senai–Desaru Expressway and the Johor Bahru East Coast Highway.
The Kota Iskandar Mosque is a Johor's state mosque located at Kota Iskandar, Iskandar Puteri, a Johor State Administrative Centre at Johor Bahru District, Johor, Malaysia. It is the second state mosque of Johor after Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque in Johor Bahru. This modern futuristic mosque was officially opened on 16 June 2015 and was named after the late 24th and fourth Sultan of Johor, Almarhum Sultan Iskandar ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail.

It is a special vehicle joint venture company between the State of Johor under Johor State Secretary Incorporation (JSSI) and the Malaysia federal government under Government linked company UEM Land Berhad to develop the new Johor State's administrative centre, which later known as Kota Iskandar and other government institutional building in Iskandar Puteri.
