Sumy Airport

Sumy Airport( IATA : UMY, ICAO : UKHS) is a state international airport located in Sumy, Ukraine. It has become international since 8 December 2006. The airport is capable of accepting such aircraft as the Tu-134 (with limitations), An-24, Yak-40, and aircraft of lower classes round-the-clock. The capacity of the airport terminal is 100 passengers per hour. As of August 2008, there are no flights scheduled from the capital Kyiv[ citation needed ]. The airport hosts car shows.

1979 Dniprodzerzhynsk mid-air collision 1979 aviation accident

On 11 August 1979, a mid-air collision occurred over the Ukrainian SSR, near the city of Dniprodzerzhynsk. The aircraft involved were both Tupolev Tu-134As on scheduled domestic passenger flights, operated by Aeroflot. All 178 people aboard both aircraft died in the accident. The Soviet aviation board investigating the accident concluded that the crash was caused by "mistakes and violations" made by air traffic controllers.

The northeastern Ukraine campaign was a theatre of operation from 24 February to 8 April 2022 in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine for control of two provinces (oblasts) in Ukraine — Chernihiv Oblast and Sumy Oblast. On 4 April 2022, Ukrainian authorities said that Russian troops had mostly withdrawn from Sumy Oblast and no longer occupied any towns or villages in the area. Later that evening Ukrainian authorities claimed that Russian forces had withdrawn from Chernihiv Oblast, which was confirmed by the Pentagon by 6 April. In addition, it took place from February 24th to May 14th in Kharkiv Oblast. On 14 May, the ISW reported that: “Ukraine thus appears to have won the battle of Kharkiv.” The Mayor of Kharkiv said to the BBC: "There was no shelling in the city for the last five days. There was only one attempt from Russians to hit the city with a missile rocket near Kharkiv airport, but the missile was eliminated by Ukrainian Air Defence."

The 2022 northeastern Ukraine–Russia border skirmishes are a series of border skirmishes along the Russia-Ukraine border in parts of the Russia–Ukraine border such as the Shostka Raion in Sumy Oblast during the 2022 Russian Invasion of Ukraine. It started on 6 April 2022 when Ukrainian soldiers shelled Kursk district with mortars and multiple rocket launchers across the region. Ukrainian officials say that strikes across the border happen every day.
