Sunit Kumar Singh is an Indian molecular virologist and professor of Molecular Immunology &Virology at the Institute of Medical Sciences,Banaras Hindu University. [1] Currently,he is the director of the Dr. B R Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research (ACBR),New Delhi. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
Sunit Kumar Singh earned his PhD in 2005 from University of Wuerzburg in Germany. [6] Prof. Singh has been a scientist at CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB),Hyderabad from 2006 to 2014. Dr. Singh led a research group in the area of neurovirology and inflammation biology as a scientist at CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB),Hyderabad. In 2014,he joined the Banaras Hindu University (BHU),Varanasi,India. Prof. Singh has been Head of the Molecular Biology Unit,Institute of Medical Science,BHU,Varanasi for more than eight years. [7] In addition,he has been the Professor Incharge of Center of Experimental Medicine &Surgery at the Institute of Medical Sciences,BHU,Varanasi for about five years [8] Prior to these,Prof. Singh has worked in research roles at University of California,and School of Medicine,Yale University. [1] In March 2023,Prof. Singh has been appointed as the Director of the Dr B R Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research (ACBR),New Delhi in year 2023. [9] In addition,Prof. Singh is also the Director of the Delhi Scool of Public Health (DSPH) [10] ,Institution of Eminence,University of Delhi.
Sunit K. Singh, received many awards and fellowships for his contribution in the area of virology. Prof. Singh has been quite active in disseminating the right information to the society during various virus outbreaks such as: SARS-CoV2 and Monkeypox outbreaks as a part of his public outreach activity. Sunit K. Singh contributed to the area of neurovirology and inflammation biology. Prof. Singh has published his research findings in various international peer reviewed journals in the area of Molecular Virology. Prof. Singh has been associated with many reputed peer reviewed International journals as Deputy Editor, Section Editor and Editorial Board Member. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is a collegiate, central, and research university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, and founded in 1916. The university incorporated the Central Hindu College, which had been founded by future Indian Home Rule-league leader and theosophist, Annie Besant in 1898. By 1911 Besant and her associates were marginalised on the governing board of the Central Hindu College by Madan Mohan Malviya and his associates, who preferred a more orthodox version of Hindusim to Besant's more theosophy-oriented Sanatana Dharma, for which she had written the text-books. Besant had also become involved in founding the India Home Rule League with Bal Gangadhar Tilak, leaving the university to be established in 1916 by Malaviya with the support of the maharaja of Darbhanga Rameshwar Singh, the maharaja of Benares Prabhu Narayan Singh, and the lawyer Sunder Lal. With over 30,000 students, and 18,000 residing on campus, BHU is the largest residential university in Asia. The university is one of the eight public institutions declared as an Institute of Eminence by the Government of India. It is also one of the 12 institutions from India in BRICS Universities League, a consortium of leading research universities from BRICS countries.
Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi(IIT-BHU) is a public technical university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Founded in 1919 as the Banaras Engineering College, it became the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University in 1968. It was later designated an Indian Institute of Technology in 2012. The Sayaji Rao Gaekwad Library, also known as the Central Library, is the main library of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh in India. Madhu Sudan Kanungo was an Indian scientist in the field of gerontology and neuroscience as well as a teacher of molecular biology and biochemistry. He is known for his theories on how gene expression changes with age and the role of this phenomenon in ageing, which is a widely accepted as "Gene expression theory of Aging". In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded India's fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri in 2005. He held the post of BHU Emeritus professor in zoology at the Banaras Hindu University and was also the Chancellor, Nagaland University till his death.
