Super Tasty is the second album by Gumball. [3] It was released in 1993 via Columbia, the band's first album for a major label. [4] [5]

Contents

Three singles, "Accelerator," "The Damage Done" and "Real Gone Deal," received airplay on alternative radio and 120 Minutes . Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis plays on two tracks.

Production

The album was partly recorded in a barn close to Vig's Smart Studios. [6]

Critical reception

Trouser Press wrote: "A bit more bite would not have gone amiss; much of Fleming’s lyric irony sounds more weary than wired. Still, Super Tasty is a buzzin’ good time, if only for its wonderfully retro sonic glitz." [7] The Chicago Tribune called the album "overproduced," writing that the songs sounded better in concert. [8] New York Magazine called it "full of rollicking, loose-limbed road songs." [6] The New York Times wrote: " In songs that are well-made but never break free of their genres, the band seems content to be a throwback, while a listener is left waiting for the twist." [9] Spin wrote that Super Tasty "has a nice, loose, rockin' vibe." [10]

1991: The Year Punk Broke, released theatrically in 1992, is a documentary directed by Dave Markey featuring American alternative rock band Sonic Youth on tour in Europe in 1991. While Sonic Youth is the focus of the documentary, the film also gives attention to Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr., Babes in Toyland, Gumball and The Ramones. Also featured in the film are Mark Arm, Dan Peters and Matt Lukin of Mudhoney and roadie Joe Cole, who was murdered in a robbery three months after the tour ended. The film is dedicated to him.

J Mascis

Joseph Donald Mascis Jr., known professionally as J Mascis, is an American musician, best known as the singer, guitarist and main songwriter for the alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr. He has also released several albums as a solo artist and played drums and guitar on other projects. His most recent solo album, Elastic Days, was released in November 2018. He was ranked number 86 in a Rolling Stone list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists", and number 5 in a similar list for Spin magazine in 2012.

J Mascis + The Fog

J Mascis + The Fog was formed by J Mascis after the break up of Dinosaur Jr. The project released two albums; 2000's More Light and 2002's Free So Free.

Gumball (band)

Gumball was an American rock band formed in New York City in 1990. The original lineup consisted of Don Fleming, Eric Vermillion, and Jay Spiegel (drums). In 1992, a fourth member was added, Malcolm Riviera who had previously played with Fleming and Spiegel in the Velvet Monkeys.

Gone Fishin' is the second studio album by San Francisco-based punk rock band Flipper, released in 1984 by Subterranean Records. The album's artwork featured a depiction of Flipper's tour van as a ready-to-cut-out-and-assemble centerpiece, with similar cutouts of the four band members on the back cover. At the time of the album's release, Subterranean offered extra empty covers of the album by mail order for $2 for those Flipper fans that wanted to have a cover to cut up and assemble.
