Susanna Dinnage (born 1966/67) [1] is a British businesswoman, who was formerly the current global president of the Animal Planet television network. In November 2018, she became the chief executive-designate of the English Premier League, and was scheduled to succeed Richard Scudamore in early 2019. On 30 December 2018, Dinnage told the organisation she would not be taking up the position.

Career

Dinnage started her career at MTV Networks. [2] [3] She later worked for Channel 5 for more than ten years from its creation in 1997. [2] [3] [4]

In 2009, Dinnage joined Discovery, Inc. and ran its British and Irish operation, including responsibility for Eurosport. [2] During her time at Discovery, Eurosport obtained the European coverage rights to all Summer and Winter Olympic Games from 2018-2024. [2] In November 2017, she was appointed the first global president of the Animal Planet network, which is owned by Discovery, Inc. [4] [5] [6] Dinnage is also the chair of the Commercial Broadcasters Association, and an executive member of the Discovery Women's Network. [4] In 2017, she was a leading contender to become chief executive of Channel 4, although the position was given to Alex Mahon instead. [4] [7]

In November 2018, Dinnage was chosen to succeed Richard Scudamore as chief executive of the English Premier League. [6] [8] She was the Premier League recruitment panel's preferred candidate, and her appointment was voted for by all 20 Premier League teams. [7] Had she taken up the post in early 2019, Dinnage would have become the most senior female leader in major professional sport, [8] the fourth Premier League chief since the formation of the Premier League in 1992, and the first female Premier League chief. [4] On 30 December 2018, Dinnage told the organisation she would not be taking up the position. [9] Dinnage never gave a reason for changing her mind. [10]

In November 2019, it was announced that Dinnage would leave Animal Planet and the Discovery network, following a restructure. [11]

Animal Planet is an American multinational pay television channel owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. First established on June 1, 1996, the network is primarily devoted to series and documentaries about wild animals and domestic pets.

Eurosport is a French television sports network and a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, a division of Warner Bros. Discovery. Eurosport owns a wide range of rights across many sports, but generally does not bid for premium-priced rights such as those to major football leagues. Discovery, Inc. was an American multinational mass media factual television conglomerate based in New York City. Established in 1985, the company operated a group of factual and lifestyle television brands, such as the namesake Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Science Channel, and TLC. In 2018, the company acquired Scripps Networks Interactive, adding networks such as Food Network, HGTV, and Travel Channel to its portfolio. Since the purchase, Discovery has described itself as serving members of "passionate" audiences, and has also placed a larger focus on streaming services built around its properties, such as Discovery+.

Game 39 Proposed extra round in English footballs Premier League

"Game 39" or the international round was a proposed extra round of matches in the Premier League to be played at neutral venues outside England. The top football league in England, the Premier League is played on a double round robin basis, where each team plays the other 19 teams home and away, giving a total of 38 games. The international round was proposed at a meeting of the 20 Premier League clubs on 7 February 2008, with a view to being introduced for the 2010–11 season, when a new television broadcasting rights contract would be in place. The proposed start date was later put back to 2013–14. The proposal was reportedly endorsed by the chairmen of a number of Premier League clubs.

A member of the African National Congress, she is the party's chief whip in the assembly.
