Raisa Petrovna Smetanina is a Soviet, Komi and Russian cross-country skiing champion. She is the first woman in history to win ten Winter Olympic medals.
Galina Alexeyevna Kulakova is a Soviet-Russian former cross-country skier, arguably the best skier on distances shorter than 10 km in the early 1970s. She won four Olympic golds, two individual in 1972 and two relay golds in 1972 and 1976. She was the most successful athlete at the 1972 Winter Olympics, along with Ard Schenk of the Netherlands. Competing in the World Championships, she won three individual golds, two in 1974 and one in 1970, and also two relay golds in those years. Kulakova also won the 10 km event at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1970 and 1979. Galina Kulakova was also 39 times Champion of the USSR between 1969 and 1981.
Lars Erik Eriksen is a retired Norwegian cross-country skier who competed in multiple events at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics and 1978 and 1982 World Championships. He had his best achievements in the 4 × 10 km relay, winning a bronze in 1978, a silver in 1980 and a gold in 1982, and finishing in fourth place at the 1984 Olympic Games. Individually, he performed better in longer distances, winning two medals in the 30 and 50 km at the 1982 World Championships and finishing fourth in the 50 km at the 1980 Olympic Games, though he also won the 1984 World Cup in the 15 km event. Eriksen retired in 1988, and later worked as a skiing coach, with Bjørn Dæhlie among others.
Veli Selim Saarinen was a Finnish cross-country skier who competed in the 1928 and 1932 Olympics.
Kalevi Oikarainen was a Finnish cross-country skier who competed between the 1950s and the 1970s.
René Sommerfeldt is a German cross-country skier who competed from 1994 to 2010. He won two medals in the 4 × 10 km relays at the Winter Olympics with a silver in 2006 and a bronze in 2002. Sommerfeldt's best individual Olympic finish was 12th in the 15 km event in 2006.
Carola Anding is a former East German cross-country skier who competed during the early 1980s. She won a gold medal in the 4 × 5 km relay at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.
Marit Myrmæl is a Norwegian cross-country skier who competed during the early 1980s.
Stefanie Böhler is a German former cross-country skier who competed between 1999 and 2018. She won a silver medal in the 4 × 5 km relay at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Her best individual finish was 20th in both the individual sprint and the 30 km events at those same games.
Juho "Jussi" Kurikkala was a Finnish cross-country skier who competed in the 1930s. He was born in Kalajoki, and won three medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships with a silver in the 4 × 10 km relay in 1937, a gold in the same event in 1938, and a gold in the 18 km in 1939. He was also a long-distance runner and competed in the marathon at the 1948 Summer Olympics.
Manuela Oschmann is a former German cross-country skier who competed during the 1980s. She won a bronze medal in the 4 × 5 km relay at the 1985 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld, Austria. She also competed in three events at the 1992 Winter Olympics.
Antonina Ordina is a former Soviet/Swedish cross-country skier who competed at international level from 1985 to 2002. In Soviet time she trained at Dynamo in Kalinin. She won three medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, with a gold in the 4 × 5 km relay (1987 and bronzes in the 30 km and the 4 × 5 km relay.
Paola Pigni was an Italian middle- and long-distance runner. She was a three-time world champion in cross country and held the world record over five distance running events on the track, from 1500m to 10,000m.
Jochen Behle is a former (West) German cross-country skier who competed from 1980 to 1998.

Mari Eder is a Finnish biathlete and cross-country skier.
Denise Herrmann-Wick is a former German biathlete and cross-country skier. She won gold at 2022 Winter Olympics – Women's individual, won gold at Biathlon World Championships 2019 – Women's pursuit and won gold at Biathlon World Championships 2023 – Women's sprint. Previously, she has competed in FIS Cross-Country World Cup since 2009. Herrmann has won several medals at the World Cup events. In April 2016, she announced that she would switch to competing in biathlon for the following season, although in an interview in November of that year, she did not rule out competing in cross-country skiing in the future.
Johanna Katariina Matintalo is a Finnish cross-country skier and former track and field athlete. She set Finnish age group records as a middle-distance runner and was national champion in the women's 800 metres in 2013, but injuries and stagnating results led her to concentrate on skiing. As a skier, she won silver in the women's skiathlon at the 2017 World U23 Championships and has represented Finland in the 2017, 2019 and 2021 World Championships as well as the 2018 Winter Olympics in cross-country skiing, winning her first and to date, only medal in the 4 × 5 kilometre relay in the 2021 World Championships in Oberstdorf.
Jasmin Nunige, née Baumann is a Swiss former cross-country skier. She competed in two events at the 1994 Winter Olympics.
Yuliya Anatoliyivna Krol is a Ukrainian cross country skier who has competed internationally since 2016.
