The women's 200 metre butterfly event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games as part of the swimming programme took place on 28 July at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.

Contents

The medals were presented by Takitoa Taumoepeau, Secretary General of the Tonga Sports Association and National Olympic Committee and the quaichs were presented by Annette Knott, Secretary General of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee.

She holds several Canadian national records in the butterfly over the 50-, 100-, and 200-metre distances in both the short and long courses. Savard also holds the Canadian junior butterfly record in the 200-metre event. She won the gold medal at the Summer Universiade in the 100-metre butterfly in 2012, while also garnering a medal in the 50-metre butterfly at the 2013 Universiade. Savard won gold at the Commonwealth Games in the 100-metre butterfly in Glasgow, where she set the Commonwealth record in the process. At the same games she also won a bronze as a member of the women's 4×100-metre medley relay team.

Choi Hye-Ra is a South Korean swimmer, who specialized in butterfly and individual medley events. She collected a total of four medals in the 200 m butterfly, 200 m individual medley, and the 800 m freestyle relay at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, and at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. She also won a silver medal in the same medley distance at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China, scorching a time of 2:14.17. Choi is a resident athlete of Osan Sports Club in Seoul.

Considered one of the most promising swimmers in the international scene, she currently holds a world junior record in the 200 m butterfly, and also produced a tally of ten medals in her swimming career, spanning the Youth Olympics, Asian Games, World Championships and the Summer Olympics.

The women's 200 metre butterfly event at the 2020 Summer Olympics was held from 27 to 29 July 2021 at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre. It was the event's fourteenth consecutive appearance, having been held at every edition since 1968.
