Commonwealth Games appearances (overview)

Wales competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, from April 4 to April 15, 2018. [1] It is Wales's 21st appearance at the Commonwealth Games, having competed at every Games since their inception in 1930.

Contents

Swimmer Jazz Carlin was the country's flag bearer during the opening ceremony. [2]

Cycling

Team Wales announced the selection of para-cyclist James Ball on 29 November 2017. [8]

Most of the 21-strong squad of 15 men and 6 women was made public on 24 January 2018, [4] with Pete Mitchell confirmed as a para-cycling pilot on 1 February 2018. [9]

Rugby sevens

Wales qualified a team of 12 men by being among the top nine ranked nations from the Commonwealth in the 2016–17 World Rugby Sevens Series ranking. [19] In addition, they qualified a team of 12 women by being the top ranked Commonwealth nation in the 2017 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Grand Prix among those not already qualified though the 2016–17 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series ranking. [19] During the tournament, Harri Millard replaced the injured Morgan Williams.

The women's team was announced on 12 March 2018, [20] followed by the men's team on 19 March 2018. [21]

Netball was one of the ten core sports at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which was held on the Gold Coast in Australia. This was the sixth staging of netball at the Commonwealth Games since its inclusion in 1998, and the second time the netball event was held in Australia.

Chelsea Lewis is a Wales netball international. She represented Wales at the 2011 and 2015 Netball World Cups and at the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games. She was also a member of the Wales teams that won the 2010 Netball Singapore Nations Cup and the 2013 and 2014 European Netball Championships. At club level she has played for Celtic Dragons and Team Bath in the Netball Superleague.

New Zealand competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England, from 28 July to 8 August 2022. It is New Zealand's 22nd appearance at the Commonwealth Games, having competed at every Games since their inception in 1930. New Zealand finished fifth on the medal table, winning a total of 50 medals, 20 of which were gold. This makes these games New Zealand's best performance ever in terms of gold medals, beating the 17 won in Auckland at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, but third overall in terms of total medals, with 50, behind the 58 in 1990, and the 53 at the Games also in Auckland.
