Syed Hamid ul Hassan is a Shia scholar from Lucknow, India. He is also the current principal of Jamia Nazmia. [3]

Education

He completed his education from Jamia Nazmia up to Mumtaz-ul-Afazil and was taught by Syed Ahmad Ali (son of Mohammad Abbas) along with other learned teachers. After finishing his studies at Madrasatul Waizeen and completing different oriental courses from Lucknow University, Shia Arabic College and Aligarh Muslim University, he went to Najaf-e-Ashraf, Iraq, for higher education. There his teachers included Muhsin al-Hakim and Syed Abul Qasim al-Khoei. [4]

He became the principal of Jamia Nazmia in 1969. [4]

He is an authority on Shia theology. [5]

He has always advocated non-violence. [6] [3] [7] [8] [9] He has also strived hard over the years to bridge the gap between the two main communities of India viz., the Hindus and Muslims. [4] [10] [11] [12] [13]

He played a prominent role in resolving the century-old Shia-Sunni conflict in Lucknow in 1998. His efforts in maintaining peace in the city by reaching out to other communities have been acknowledged by the media and administration alike. [14] [15]

Jamia Nazmia is one of the leading centres of Shia Islamic education in the city of Lucknow, India. It was founded on the 8th Jamadi-ul-Awwal 1308 Hijri making it the oldest Shia religious institution of India.

Madrasatul Waizeen or Madrasatul Waezeen or Madrasat al-Wa'izin, founded in 1919, is an old centre of Twelver Shia education in the city of Lucknow, India. Many of the clerics attend this school after they finish their graduate educations in other Shia seminaries to strengthen their oratory and preaching skills. It is well-known for the valuable manuscripts in its library.

Najm al-Ḥasan, also known as Najmul Millat or Najmul Ulama, was an Islamic jurist and the founder of Jamia Nazmia, the oldest Shia religious institution of India.

Grand Ayatollah Syed Mohsin Nawab Rizvi popularly known as Mohsin-ul-millat, was an Indian poet, writer, speaker and a Marja of the Twelver branch of Shia Islam. He served as vice principal of Sultanul Madaris, Lucknow, and as a principal of Govt Oriental College Madarsa Alia, Rampur and Madarsa Imaniya Nasiriya, Jaunpur.
